Service GARRY AULT Willamina Oregon 97396 The Buell Junior Grange Drill Team goes through it’s paces in a recent practice. Junior Grange News Drill team practice; fund raising party plans; contest winner Beginning last November the Buell Junior Grange organized a drill team. The 12 member team has been rehearsing per iodically since then and when they are ready to perform they will be available for virtually any type of occasion. The drill team members are Michelle Cousins, Carrie De Hart, Cari Hodge, Carla Allison, Michelle Britt, Cindy Aaron, Julie Nimrod, Carlo De Jong, Kay LeRoy, Debbie Campbell, Anne Wightman and Ginger Mus grave. The team also has three flag bearers and escorts. They are Jennifer Nimrod, Janie Nimrod and Becky Hodge. Team captain is Doug Cousins. The drill instructor is Gordon Lucas, Mrs. Clarence Osleorn is the matron and Mrs. Nell Tivinve is the musician. The team will be entered in state-wide drill team competi tions in Grants Pass in June. On February 5 at 7:30 in the Buell Grange Hall the Drill Team is putting on a Target Party for biodegradeable products to help raise funds to purchase uniforms for the drill team. Towards the end of the party the team will put on a demon stration of their abilities. The team has already earned Grange’s national “ Somethingout of Nothing contest,” by Melvina Carver the Oregon State Grange Juniors Superintendant, Doug’s “ something” was a sailboat on a canvas made out of wood and string. over $200 by selling advertising on their wall board, but this is only about half as much as what they need for the uniforms. Wharton’s philosophy in one phrase it would have to be “honesty is the best policy.” Wharton runs the White Elephant second hand store in Grand Ronde or perhaps we should say used to run the • second hand store in Grand Ronde. Currently the Wharton’s are in the process of liquidating the stock of their store. They have been in operation in Grand Ronde for the last six months, but are now preparing to move to Bal lston where they will be opening another store. , The move is not the idea of the Whartons’ who like their present location in the old theater next to the Bonanza restaurant in Grand Ronde. They must move because the building which they are renting has been sold to Bill Robertson who is planning on openning a print shop in it. When the Robertson’s first moved into the building they were advised that it was up for sale and could be sold at any time by the building’s owner Nick Palanuk. The Wharton’s Store in Ballston will be open for business in the first part of February. “ We got started in this business by accident. We were having a rummage sale and it grew from that. People kept asking us to , get things for them and it just kept" growing until we had to get a bigger building for it,” Wharton said. Wharton, originally from Texas, is very proud of his business and stresses that he sells second hand items, not junk. “ If it’s junk we throw it away, but if it can be fixed we fix it and then, sell it.” While one may purchase a second hand item from the Whar tons, Mr. Wharton does not be lieve in selling anyone a pig in a poke. “ We pride ourselves on our bus iness and what we sell. We don’t tell any falsehoods. We tell everything that we know about an item before we sell it.” By going to auctions and buy ing furniture from people who are moving the Whartons main tain their stock. “We try to keep our prices down so that most people can afford it. The Remington pump action rifle was the result of Rudy’s having killed the longest male coyote in Yam hill County during the Association sponsored contest. Rudy shot the coyote while riding around on Willamina Creek Road last Oct ober. It measured 49 inches from tip to tip.
