MAY MAKE SURVEY OF RIVER POSSIBILITIES The Brookings Port Commiss ion will consider the possibility of making a survey on the potent ials of the Chetco river, and Its banks. Rather than to start develop - ment on a h elter-skelter basis, which may be regretted later, the Commission thought that it would be much better to present an over-all development plan to the public. A letter was written to the Stanford Research group who specializes in jobs of this sort, to determine what the cash out lay would be to give the river and its shores a contrete plan. At least one private Individual has Indicated that he would p u t In a good size hunk of money to help finance the research work. The survey would include such Items as barging, channel, com - merclal fishing, and public ac ce ss to the river. It was understood that the Arm; Engineers are waiting for the local Commission to show that they Intend to do something, be fore the Engineers approve fur ther work on the project, suchai dredging. The Jetty work is apparently right on schedule now, with a November completion date. The contractors have put In s o m e night work in recent weeks in an effort to maintain their schedule. They must add a couple of hundred feet to each Jetty. T h e recent storm showed that they were well constructed, only th e roadbed was lost, and that w a s expected. ************* PLACE CHANGED ON FLYING CLUB FILM The Chetco Flying Club will meet at the high school, In roon five, rather than at the B r o o k ings Fire Station as previously announced.
