One Y ear in A dvance (outside C urry County) i S300 $3.50 Teen-Age Employment Bureau Folks have been asking how the teen-age em ploym ent serv- ice has been w orking out. Since school let o u t some forty te e n agers have signed up a t the city hall. T he average age of these y oungsters is fifteen. They fill out an application blank on which they s ta te job preferences. T here are nine big headings for jobs open to teenagers in the are a for the sum m er m onths on record at the city hall. They in clude babysitting, construction, farm w ork, plywood, stores, stree t w ork, y ard and garden, i bulb work and miscellaneous t WOrk A num ber of employers have called in requesting workers and m any of the youngsters have kept in close contact w ith th*1 employment service. This pro ject has been a very worthwhile one and it is hoped th at it will be continued again next sum mer. Mayor Brimm, Supt. W ill iams and alph Reed were three who were instrum ental in getting the program started . A lead editorial in the Oregon ian Sunday, took up the cudgel of straightening the Brookings-Gold Beach section of highway 101. The editorial claim ed the high way was the third most heavily traveled route in Oregon, “ and one show ing a trem endous annual increase in use,” and “ is the life line of all citizens and business along the seacoast.” The editorial went on to say "The stretch south of Gold Beach remains as a discouragem ent to sum m er visitors and hindrance to the flow of w inter com m erce.” The Oregonian predicted th at much traffic will be diverted over U. S. 99 when the four-lane free way is developed, but said that 1 Oregon "will not m ake friends and influence spending by out-of- sta te travelers unless the Gold Beach- Brookings bottleneck is opened".
