Teen-Age Employment Bureau
Folks have been asking how
the teen-age em ploym ent serv-
ice has been w orking out. Since
school let o u t some forty te e n
agers have signed up a t the city

y oungsters is fifteen. They fill
out an application blank on
which they s ta te job preferences.
T here are nine big headings for
jobs open to teenagers in the

A num ber of employers have
called in requesting workers and
m any of the youngsters have
kept in close contact w ith th*1
employment service. This pro
ject has been a very worthwhile
one and it is hoped th at it will
be continued again next sum
mer. Mayor Brimm, Supt. W ill
iams and alph Reed were three
who were instrum ental in getting
the program started .
A lead editorial in the Oregon
ian Sunday, took up the cudgel of
straightening the Brookings-Gold
Beach section of highway 101.
The editorial claim ed the high
way was the third most heavily
traveled route in Oregon, “ and
one show ing a trem endous annual
increase in use,” and “ is the life
line of all citizens and business
along the seacoast.”
The editorial went on to say
"The stretch south of Gold Beach
remains as a discouragem ent to
sum m er visitors and hindrance to
the flow of w inter com m erce.”
The Oregonian predicted th at
much traffic will be diverted over
U. S. 99 when the four-lane free
way is developed, but said that
1 Oregon "will not m ake friends
and influence spending by out-of-
sta te travelers unless the Gold
Beach- Brookings bottleneck is
opened".
