A helicopter for commuters to Gold Beach might sound Ike a strange recommendation—hut we’re not even sure that we have our tongue in our «cheek as we write this. Personally a 15 or,20 minute ride by “Whirley Bird” seems a lot better idea than an hours (or more) drive over the fiercest high way in the United States. ’ What we suggest is that the community buy one of the larger var iety of helicopters, such as they use to haul commuters from the airports to the city. Then we could set up a regular schedule, say two trips a day to (¡old Beach. Maylx* on weekends we could get into Oregon “Proper” in another direction, with a trip to (¡rants Pass Perhaps we could interest the county government in the project, and on the first Wednesday of each month we could have a “(Courthouse Special M O R E H IST O R Y T here is being prepared for publication in the PI I ATT, a ser ial of local interest, Itemg a sto ry of the local coastal Indians T his will also be hasted on ree «»ids, the early visitors having found the natives ta r different from some of tfv stories that h ave come down to us GORDON IS UP! We don’t say that the 101 im provement should I k finished this year or next, hut we are of the opinion that the highway department could at least present a “schedule of improvement” so we would know how long we are going to have to wait before “Oregon Proper” takes us into her bosom. w hat they tell him they will lengthen his range and th at part of it is up to Gordon.
