B ut w hat do you say about a m o th e r? She is an in stitu tio n which no {>ower of w ords could g lo rify beyond th e s ta tu s she alre ad y has, T h ere have been bad m o th ers in th e world, and th e re u n dou b ted ly will be m ore in th e fu tu re. It is In m oulding th e c h a ra c te r and shaping the sp irit of h e r children th a t h er w orth shines forth. And th e love she show ers upon h er fam ily, and th e sacrifices w hich she m akes for th em . . . these a re the essence of m otherhood. And as she shapes h er sons, so she shapes th e w orld they live in. If, in the fu tu re , it becom es th e kind of w orld m en d re am of, it will be because of th e ir m others. The Chamber Gets Our Thanks T he B rookings-H arbor C h am b er of C om m erce is to be com m ended for bringing th e can d id ate for public office in this m ended for bringing th e can d id ates for public office in this co u n ty into B rookings to expound th e ir views. A w ell-inform ed e le c to ra te is one of th e g re at safeg u ard s of D em ocracy. C ertain ly it is vital to th e w e lfare of any group th a t th ey know the people for w hom they vote, and th a t they form th e ir opinions at first hand. And especially in such a county as C urry’, w here long m iles lay betw een one end and th e o th er, it is a p re tty tough proposi tion for the voters to becom e acq u ain ted w ith th e candidates. So the C ham ber is providing a v itally needed service when it brings the ca n d id a tes and th e electors of this region face to face. W e w ere disappointed in th e size of th e crow d. It seem s obvious to us th a t a num ber of people in th is a re a will still cast th e ir vote on May 21 w ithout enough inform ation on the can d i d a te s concerned. But even th a t is not so had as the fact th a t, alm ost posi tively, m ore th an h alf of the people who a re eligible to vote h e re will not a p p e a r th a t night, to decide who th e ir re p re s e n ta tives will he d u rin g th e next few years. In th a t one fact lies th e g re a te s t d a n g e r to the A m erican system of governm ent.
