Mother's Day
Along w ith every o th e r e d ito r in th e U nited S ta tes, we feel
im pelled to say a few w ords about M others, w ith M o th er’s Day
approaching.
B ut w hat do you say about a m o th e r? She is an in stitu tio n which

In m oulding th e c h a ra c te r and shaping the sp irit of h e r children
th a t h er w orth shines forth. And th e love she show ers upon h er

a re the essence of m otherhood.
And as she shapes h er sons, so she shapes th e w orld they
live in. If, in the fu tu re , it becom es th e kind of w orld m en d re am
of, it will be because of th e ir m others.

co u n ty into B rookings to expound th e ir views.
A w ell-inform ed e le c to ra te is one of th e g re at safeg u ard s of
D em ocracy. C ertain ly it is vital to th e w e lfare of any group th a t
th ey know the people for w hom they vote, and th a t they form
th e ir opinions at first hand.
And especially in such a county as C urry’, w here long m iles
lay betw een one end and th e o th er, it is a p re tty tough proposi
tion for the voters to becom e acq u ain ted w ith th e candidates.
So the C ham ber is providing a v itally needed service when
it brings the ca n d id a tes and th e electors of this region face
to face.
W e w ere disappointed in th e size of th e crow d. It seem s
obvious to us th a t a num ber of people in th is a re a will still cast
th e ir vote on May 21 w ithout enough inform ation on the can d i
d a te s concerned.
But even th a t is not so had as the fact th a t, alm ost posi
tively, m ore th an h alf of the people who a re eligible to vote
h e re will not a p p e a r th a t night, to decide who th e ir re p re s e n ta
tives will he d u rin g th e next few years. In th a t one fact lies
th e g re a te s t d a n g e r to the A m erican system of governm ent.
