COUPON HYPNOSIS • STRESS • FEARS • SPORTS “ In the same amount of tim e, it could probably dump its first load and be ready w ith a second," Rathke said The district is also study ing two pumpers, placed in reserve status this sum m er when the district purchas ed new rigs for the Dover and Roslyn Lake substa tions Considerations include selling one and making the second an a ll-p u rp o s e utility-type vehicle, but the priorities for that type of vehicle. Rathke said, are low right now He will report back to the board at its Jan 11 meeting on a plan of action and on the rescue, brush and reserve rig programs Post office adds holiday hours ____________ F O R : _______________ Bull Run board plans meet THURSDAY, DEC. 2 to look at the number of a la rm s the brush rigs a n s w e r —12 to 18 a ye ar p rim a rily in non wooded areas and the age of the vehicles “ W ith brush responses so low. it hard to justify a new rig ," Rathke said The district had talked of rebuilding the two brush r ig s , but e x te n s iv e modification costs overrul ed those considerations Now. district thinking goes, the two older vehicles could be sold to purchase a newer one-ton pickup truck outfitted with a 250-galIon tank That would be "s u ffi cient" for early fire sup pression and its speed would cut running times in the Dover and Firwood areas by half Call for Appointment Keeping posted: Sandy Garden Club will hold Christmas greenery workshops at 10 a m with wreath making at the home of M arge Jacoby, 19270 SE 395th. and swags at the home of Dorothy Shrum, 16380 SE Bluff The Bull Run School Board w ill hold a regular board meeting at 7 p m in the school cafeteria The P o r tla n d Metropolitan Area Local G o v e rn m e n t B o u n d ary Commission will consider the city of Sandy's recom mendation to annex pro perty adjacent to Janz Ber- ryland into the city limits The meeting is at 7 p m at 320 SW Stark St., Portland Had th e p ro p o se d statew ide property tax limitation measure gained vo ter a p p ro v a l in the November general elec tion. local officials were prepared to pare th eir budgets and make do with less W hen the voters rejected the proposal, however, not everyone tossed out the lists of proposed cuts they had prepared in the days leading up to the election In this area, hit hard by unemployment, the con tro ve rs ia l m easure en jo y e d success an d budgeters are taking note of that sentiment The Sandy F ire District board of directors got that message and is eyeing spending decreases and cutbacks In response. F ire Chief Bob Rathke asked his board to consider financing new apparatus purchases through the sale of older vehicles. "F ire departments tend to keep vehicles," the fire chief said. “ Some people don't like to throw things out " Now, however, the local district is eyeing a change in that policy. Of paramount important is a "top-flight" rescue rig. used in the m ajority of district alarm s The c u r rent vehicle is 10 years old and has been pushed for som e " h a rd " m ile s .
