The idea for the "garden oddities'" fe a tu re at the Clackamas County F a ir was born in all probability when two or more loud-mouths at the country store challenged each others claim to be the largest watermelon in the county, said E A. As in past years, one of the highlights of this seasons agricultural products com petition w ill be the designation of a "Champion Gardener The winner w ill be selected from the exhibitor scoring the most points in the various categories of the division — grain and seed, vegetables, fruit, berries. nuts and honey Prizes w ill be awarded. Hood office w ill hold a workshop aimed at updating and refining its inventory of areas in con junction with President Car ter's commitment to move ahead in identifying areas to be added to the W ilderness System The three main objectives of the workshop w ill be to explain the purpose of the Roadless Area Review and Evaluation (R A R E ) process originally begun in 1872, hear public suggestions on additions and deletions to the roadless area inventory and have the public provide a list of items to be considered in developing criteria for wilderness areas. Information gathered at the workshop w ill be used to im prove coordination of the Forest Service s land use planning positions on wilderness proposals as they come before Congress The workshop for the Port- land area (including the ML Hood National Forest) w ill be Saturday, Aug 13, from 10 a m to 2 p m in the Smith Memorial C enter at P o rtla n d State University Those interested in only the M t Hood Forest can stop by the Mt.
