During the month of August
the Forest Service’s Mt. Hood
office w ill hold a workshop
aimed at updating and refining
its inventory of areas in con­
junction with President Car­
ter's commitment to move
ahead in identifying areas to be
added to the W ilderness
System
The three main objectives of
the workshop w ill be to explain
the purpose of the Roadless
Area Review and Evaluation
(R A R E )
process originally
begun in 1872, hear public
suggestions on additions and
deletions to the roadless area
inventory and have the public
provide a list of items to be
considered
in
developing
criteria for wilderness areas.
Information gathered at the
workshop w ill be used to im­
prove coordination of the
Forest Service s land use
planning
positions
on
wilderness proposals as they
come before Congress
