POWELL BOULEVARD • GRESHAM • PHONE 665-2128 High school notes closure procedure S im ila r to sourrounding school districts, Sandy High School utilizes the alert system which coordinates radio an nouncements of school schedule changes It is hoped that some closure or altered time announcements can be made on the previous afternoon, however, when this cannot be done the High School w ill u tiliz e the standard procedure of n otifyin g the broadcast system usually between 6-6:30 a m The system then notifies the following radio stations. K E X , KGW. KISN, KO IN , KWJJ, K PA M , K X L AND K Y X I Naturally each station gives different degrees of coverage to the bulletins and the schools have even been subjected to e rro n e o u s b ro a d c a s ts ; however, the stations that have e rre d a re re v ie w in g th e ir methods of coverage Con sidering time lags between the alert and the actual broadcast, it is believed that most stations w ill note the condition of closure pnor to 6 40 a m Parents and students should note that closures may result from the weather, the school power plant and transportation conditions and several of these problems may develop pnor to school bui later than the 6 a m hour. Listeners should be ready to distinguish between a fu ll closure and a one hour delay as there could be times when the one hour delay is used as a safety factor When this occurs, all high school buses will operate one hour later on their schedules At every op portunity the high school will be w orking in concert w ith transport-affected elementary schools Delays of more than one hour will not be utilized nor will students be sent home early in the day To utilize longer delays and early dismissal historically creates more problmes than solved If a severe weather problem is generated and a student is faced with a distant walk, parents may pick up their youngster at a pre-dismissal tim e as the school is well aware of some specific road problems Though a procedure is in effect fo r n o tifyin g the mountain bus driver of delays, inasmuch as the driver leaves the school at times prior to announced closure or delay, riders from the Government Cam p a re a can assist in C am per h e a te r m ade safely Winter traveling in a pickup truck camper can be a cold proposition for those who stay in the camper It can get quite cold in the camper and i t ’s not safe to heat with gas while travelling One c am p er solved this problem by installing an or dmary auto heater with hot water hoses from the engine radiator system of his truck if you're handy with things m ech an ical, som ething like this is easy to install It works great and those in the camper can have plenty of heat in safety. One other point for this type of heater is that it's dry heat. When gas burns, it gives off large volumes of water, which ends up as condensation on windows and any pari of the camper th at’s cold o oo About 5 per cent of all gasoline consumed in the U.S. is now sold by self service gas ■tationsAnd the trend is up ward. I We honor all funeral insurance and trust plans. KENL BATEMAN notification of that driver That future in an attempt to cover unit will carry a radio in the that specific notice problem. STANLEY C.
