Peterson earned the coaching staff's P layer of the Week award Other players honored for their performances in the game were Casey Carmony as of fensive lineman . Wayne Stone as defensive lin e m a n ; and Gary Blount as defensive back .Allan Sturdy with 26 yards rushing and Dan Turin with 49 yards passing on five com pletions in 14 attempts were the other big offensive gainers for the Pioneers Turin also had two passes intercepted and had several dropped by Sandy receivers hurting the offensive drive of the Pioneers. Top receiver for Sandy was R andy Moody w ith two receptions for 21 yards The next home game for the Pioneers will be on Sept 29 against Sweet Home. Game time w ill be 8 p m The Sandy Pioneers will take their 0-2 record lo Silverton Friday night to play the Foxes, one of the favorites in the league. The Pioneers are smarting from a 21-0 loss to Newberg last Friday The game was played at Sandy "The mistakes that cost us in the Newberg game are the type the coaching staff and players should be able to correct." said Pioneer head coach Forrest Allen The Pioneers w ill try to correct those mistakes against S ilverton which edged Estacada 12-7 last week The Foxes are a team a little larger than Sandy in weight per man, but have about the same number of players on the team RAI PH PETERSON "Silverton depends on their big running backs." said Allen “ It will be up to our line to shut them o ff." The game with Silverton will be the first for the Pioneers on their side of the Coast-Valley league Other members on the Valley side besides these two teams are Molalla. Central, Estacada and Canby In the game against New bert, the Pioneers had three scoring drives stopped either by a penalty or an ir'ercepted pass in the second haif The team was unable to get untracked offensively in the first half and were unable to move outside of their own 40 yard line Meanwhile.
