The varsity baseball team was unable to play any of its three games this past week nd now w ill be forced to play every day that the weather allows to hopefully get their full season played. One team which did not let the weather interfere with their meet was the frosh track team They finished with 62 points in a three way meet with Molalla and Estacada Molalla won the meet with 70 points and Estacada had 36 The meet was held at Sandy Monday afternoon Getting first places for Sandy were Carl Kalama in the m ile; Carl Neuenfeldt in the 880 yard run; and Doug Buhler in the two m ile run Kalama also got a second in the 880 and Buhler took second in the mile run with Neuenfeldt getting third in the mile to give the young Pioneers a sweep of that event. Other top finishers for Sandy were: Adamson 2nd in 440. Davenport 3rd in low hurdles, Opperman 3rd in 220; Marsh 3rd in 880, Davenport and Zimmerman tied for 2nd in high jum p, Covey 2nd in long jum p; Richards 2nd in discus; Boyko 2nd in javelin; Marsh 2nd in two m ile; and Tim m third in two mile The Pioneer re la y team finished second behind Molalla in the mile relay com peting Nine young Oregon skiers w ill represent the state in the Western States ju n io r ski championships this week in Aspen, Colo , according to J w Englesby, Government Camp, Pacific Northwest Ski Assn director. Coach Dorian H arris' group co m piled 80 points behind winner OSU and beat out a strong P o rtla n d State University team who placed third with 714 points. Standouts in the multi-team a ffa ir were Jean Anderson who look first in the javelin with a toss of 111-0 She was followed by teammates M arilyn Coats and ex-Gresham c in d e re tte Ann Taylor in third and sixth places Kathy Berke earned a third in her first high jum p com petition, took a second in the long jump, was fifth in her first ever 220-yd dash and helped her 440 yd relay team place second Sue Eder was another Saint point-getter, taking third in the 220, fourth in the 100-yd. dash and also running a leg of the quarter mile relay “ This is exactly what they needed," said H arris Tuesday, “ They were somewhat unsure of themselves before we en tered the meet, but did an outstanding jo b ." The MHCC team was slated to meet Oregon College of Education and PSU at Mon m outh Tuesday and Miss H arris said “ Things could be tougher this time . we don't have those other teams sp lit ting up the first few places."
