You drive out of Sarasota to Bird Key. and on to other keys Everywhere are bridges, and nothing is too wide for the engineers of this region to build a bridge across The bridge across lower Tampa Bay from St Petersburg is 14 miles long Across Old Tampa Bay between T a m p a and Clearwater are three bridges The Oldest, Gandy Bridge, is a landmark All three of these are several miles long. You hop from key to key via bridges of varying length Some of these watery crossings are made on interrupted causeways with a short bridge here and there to facilitate boat traffic. It was requested that PGE consider ways of altering the project’s operation to provide adequate flows or n atu ral stream flows in 1972 The commissions provided an outline of stream flow requirements in both the Sandy and Little Sandy rivers It was also pointed out that late summer flows in the Sandy below the mouth of Bull Run have fluctuated from 50 to over 700 cfs in one hour’s time Observations show such fluctuations to be detrimental to fish migration, spawning and rearing, expose redds and often strand fish in shallow areas The Oregon G am e C om mission and Fish Commission have advised Portland General Electric Company that they will seek adequate fish passage facilities and stream flows at the Bull Run Project should the com pany request F e d e ra l Pow er Com m ission re lic e n sing P G E ’s license to operate the Sandy R iv e r h y d ro e le c tric complex expires in 1974 John McKean, state game director, said the two agencies w ill in te rv e n e and request provisions in the license to correct several problems a f fecting fish and wildlife The most senous problems, according to M cK ean , are caused by inadequate stream flows and passage deficiencies which im pede the fu ll development of anadromous fish runs in the Sandy and Little Sandy rivers A joint letter pointed out that lack of adequate flows for fish migration and rearing is most acute between Marmot Dam On the Little Sandy, the entire flow is cut off at an up stream diversion dam except during heavy runoff Adult salmon and steelhead attracted to the dam at high water are left stranded as the flow sub sides It was recommended that adequate flows be allowed at all times from the diversion dam to the mouth of the Little Sandy for anadromous fish migration and production The com m issions also requested the com pany to modernize the Marmot fish ladder or provide new facilities to insure adequate fish passage and to construct fish passage facilities on the Little Sandy diversion Another wildlife problem is also associated with the Bull Run P ro ject An unfenced portion of the Marmot Canal presents a hazard to black tailed deer which accidentally enter the canal and become trapped The company was requested to fence this portion of the canal and provide one deer crossing Permit issued Brook-St rensrude have been issued a $2916 building permit for an office at 18621 E Burn side Garon Co of Vancouver is the builder D O N 'S W E R K S T A T T Now Offers You Two Independent VW Car Service Centers Both shops offer you fast, courteous service.
