Street Roots • Nov. 11-17, 2016 Invest in people, journalism with Street Roots like to describe Street Roots as a small train that carries a heavy load in the community. It’s true. Street Roots delivers^ Every. Single. Week. Street Roots is in the midst of a historic run. The newspaper has been hitting the streets with a new edition each Friday for; nearly two years. It’s not easy publishing a weekly publication, It’s even harder to maintain quality and engaging content. Some believed we couldn’t make that By Israel Bayer lift and sustain i t We are going strong. Street Roots has helped create the Welcome Home Coalition and deliver Portland^ first affordable housing ballot measure. People told us it couldn’t be done in less than two years. Portland voted 62 percent in favor of giving people a place to call home. That’s not all. At the core of the Street Roots mission is to give people experiencing homelessness an income. It’s about more than simply housing. It’s about having access to human connection and authentic relationships. It’s about creating a safe space for both people on the streets and readers like you. It’s about learning and growing together. “For me Street Roots means dignity, because I now have a purpose,” said Shayne Methvin. “I have a job and I am helping not only myself, but other people. It makes me feel good.
