This trip was so awesom e. I m et so m any awe- som e people, and saw so m any awesom e sites and structures; tons of art - from structures and stone, to paintings and draw ings, to stain glass windows, etcetera. N ot only that but I got to experience so m any awesom e and thoughtful debates and argum ents w ith so m any different people from so m any different places. I got to see and m eet Senators and S ecret S ervice peolple, the president's dog, and m em bers of the NYPD, as well as people that we m et on the streets and in restaurants. I even got to m eet Andy from M ichigan. I had an awesom e tim e. The people w ere awesom e and this is one point w here M rs. LeFever contributed a lot! W e m et all sorts of different people everyw here we went, M rs. LeFever started conversations w ith random people everyw here we w ent, including policem en and taxi drivers! W e got insider's views from locals, and outsider's views from tourists. The people we m et varied by occupation, opinion, race, sex, and a whole lot m ore. W hether she was asking directions, or com m enting on attributes, or on the sites, or just asking a question she al- ways found out som ething ana learned som ething about the person, including their nam e. ... Caleb Moore A fter arriving at the Baltim ore airport, we started the trip by driving to New York C ity, w here we took in sites like the S tatue of Lib- erty, B attery Park, and G round Zero. W e got to go to the Broadway show Les Miserables. G et- ting to see the play was a great experience be- cause w e're putting on this play and we got to see our different characters play their parts, W e stayed in New York for a couple of days and got to see so. W e also stopped in Philadelphia and saw the Liberty Bell. Then we drove down to W ashington D.C. for the Close Up program , W e arrived in W ashington D.C. ana checked into our hotel room s at tne H otel Pennsylvania. C ody and I room ed w ith tw o fellow s from Barcelona, Spain. Their nam es w ere Luis and Xavier. W e started out the week by doing a w orkshop and seeing a few of the m em orials, in eluding tne Jefferson, FDR, Lincoln, Korean W ar, Vietnam W ar, and m any others. W e got to see C apitol H ill and take a tour of congress and we got to go to the W hite House. A few of the other things that we did during the Close Up program w ere attend several w orkshops and sem inars w ith topics ranging from copyrights to N ational Security. O ur group got to go to the C- Span C enter w ith som e people from the form er Russian States. W e had so m uch fun. I would be to do this again if I could. ... Jake W etzel Close up was the m ost fun I've had in a long tim e. In N ew York we w ent on the double-decker tour bus and saw the entire city. W e w ent by G round Zero, the S tatue of Liberty and we w ent up to the.top of the Em pire S tate building for an incredible view of the city at night. The best thing in N ew Y ork w as w hen w e saw Les Miserables on Broadway. In Philadelphia we w ent on a carriage ride around the historical part of tow n. W e also w ent and saw the Liberty Bell. W hen we w ent to D.C. we w ere so busy it was unbelievable. W e stayed up ■ until after eleven ... . evep' nightand w ejnad to wake up at seven^or i _____ , j earlier each day. The trip was extrem ely fun but the best part was when we w atched Les Miserables on Broadway, . .. Especially when traveling in a rent-a- j/ car w ith M rs. LeFever at the w heel and Cody Kelly and I navigating w ith direc- I tions from M ap Q uest! W hat an am azing experience! N ever in a m illion years / did I think that I would have the opportunity to m eet so m any interesting indi- 1/ viduals and tour so m any historical m onum ents. Everyone should take the tim e Si to travel back east at least once in their life. I w ill rem em ber m y experience forever. .. .
