im t o w s program for a local stakeholders group to be mvolved in state transportation decision making. Paula Brown, RVCOG, was present to discuss the regional transportation plan. Each mayor gives an ovendew of community news/activities. We did discuss growth. For example, Eagle Point now a community of 3,400 people, expects to reach 10,000 in ten years. Medford, a sleepy community of 11,000 when Mayor Lausman arrived in 1942 is now 54,000. Medford is expected to exceed 70,000 by the year 2000. We need to plan for that growth. Mayor Dave McFall, Eagle Point, called to our attention an article in the most recent League of Oregon Cities newsletter, stating that block grant dollars were available for law enforcement. Small rural communities may be eligible. RVCOG would assist in a grant proposal to allow for representation on JACNET (Jackson County Narcotics Enforcement Team) . ©orem A special thanks to all who planned, prepared for, and participated in the Butte Falls 4th of July celebration this year. The parade was one of die best that I can remember. Thanks to all!! ( The regular council meeting was scheduled for July 11. We did not have a quorum of council members present that evening, so rescheduled a meeting for Monday, July 15. On the 11th there was a birthday cake and flowers for the mayor who had celebrated an anniversary of turning 39 the day before. Thanks to Anne, Bobbie and the council for this! On Monday, July 15, the Planning Commission recommended approval for a modular to be placed on the Wright lot on upper Laurel street. The council approved the proposal. On July 22, Scott Mallory, resigned from the Public Works position to accept employment elsewhere. The council has known that Scott has been looking for another position for some time. On behalf of the town, we wish Scott well in his new job. The resignation was effective immediately, and leaves us with only our part-time assistant to carry on the duties. Greg has been trained to perform most of the tests and to serve as backup. However, we must have a state certified waste water treatment operator and a certified water system operator to manage the systems. We have posted the position vacancy and will be accepting applications. Applications are available from Bobbie McClanahan at the city hall Monday-Friday 8-12 a.m. I have made some contacts for assistance in the interim. The Marshall and council discussed the article in last month’s newsletter to clarify intention and direction. Written reports were presented by Public Works and Fire departments. EDC update was verbally presented by the mayor. On Saturday, July 20th I hosted the Mayor’s Meeting here in Butte Falls. Once a month, the mayor’s of Jackson and Josephine county .meet, alternating community locations for the meetings. The RVCOG (Rogue Valley Council of Governments) coordinates and is the communication link for the mayors. The meetings are informative.
