LIONS CLUB The 1996-97 Officers for die Lions Club were installed at a June 19th ceremony followed by a barbecue at the Rutherford Ranch. A Board meeting was held on July 15th to discuss the Mobile Screening Unit (MSU) committee assignments and the 1997 budget. The Board voted to have a regular club meeting on August 28th to complete work on the topics above. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Community Hall. We are needing volunteers from the Lions Club, from the school and from the community to assist with setting up the Mobile Screening Unit and assist with the screening of participants. The MSU is scheduled to be in Butte Falls on September 16th and 17th. More information about its testing and benefits to the community will be forthcoming. The membership is encouraged to come to the August 28 meeting and help fill the various committee assignments. This is important to the successful accomplishment of all the worthwhile projects we will be working on this year. We will also be discussing the upcoming trapshoot and will be asking you for ideas about new and creative money raising events. So put on your creative thinking caps and let’s make this a successfill and happy year for the community. HOME EXTENSION Home Extension members wish a fond farewell to Florence Stanley, a long time member, who is moving to Kansas. Members wish to thank her for her years of service and for her wonderful eye-openers. Florence initiated "Bake and Take Day", a day once a year when members bake an item and take it to a friend or neighbor and spend a little time to visit. Best Wishes on your move, we know you will enjoy living near your family again! We'll miss you. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL Approximately 50 youngsters attended this year's VBS. The children had a great time while learning more about the Bible and the life of Jesus. Each day the children sang songs, learned a new bible verse, made crafts, and joined in with the entire group to watch a skit or a puppet show. The children learned about missionary's and had a contest to see who, the boys or the girls, could bring in the most money to send to our local missionary family, the Van Valdheims. The total collection exceeded $180, with the boys winning the contest. A wonderful recreational experience in the winter is now available all year. Just a cool, country commute to peace and quiet. If you like to hike, explore, love to take beautiful pictures, or just need to lounge around in a remote mountain cottage, this is for you! The cottage sits in the deep forest of old growth timber, in just the right spot for those wanting to enjoy the quiet beauty of summer in the Cascade Range. The cottage was built in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Once used as a fire-watch or Guard Station by the Butte Falls District through the 1960's is now yours to rent in the winter. There is an information packet available that guides you through your adventure. M e a s u r L IB R A R Y THE STD & H IV Planned Parenthood Health Services of Southwestern Oregon will begin providing testing of males for sexually transmitted diseases (STD) at their Medford and grants Pass Clinics on July 15 th, in addition to their services for women. Daytime and Monday and Wednesday evening appointment times are available. Also beginning July 15, anonymous or confidential HTV testing and counseling, along with information and referrals for both men and women will be available.
