grow strawberries and beans near
Dayton, Oregon. They are active
members of Oregon's Farm Bureau.
Barry House:
"We are fighting organized la­
bor to the hilt."
" If they unionize farm labor for
perishable crops you and I w ill have
to pay more for food. We are
raising beans and strawberries as
cheap as possible now. We have top
quality berries. We pay by the go­
ing piece-rate."

the Perelli Minetti Corporation, De­
lano, California. From their vine­
yards and factory they produce li­
quors and wines.
The Perelli Minetti Industry has
agreed to sign a contract with the
United Farm Workers Organizing
Committee.
Perelli Minetti:
"I don't see why they (the union)
had to start organizing here in Cali­
fornia. We pay good wages here,
$1.40 an hour, That's much better
than they do in places in the south.
Why didn't they start some place
where it was really needed. Not
here?"

workers and growers must accept
their responsibilities."

Annie Smith and her family have
followed the crops for many years.
They live near Dayton, Oregon.
Annie Smith:
"Unions burn me up. I remember
once in Stockton, California about
seven years ago—we were working
a good crop. The union man called
a strike. We had to leave the field.
We couldn't work. Then they
brought in the Mexican Nationals as
strike breakers. We lost out. It
didn't do any good. So for my part
I'll never join a union."
Another farm worker living in
Dan Tudor's labor camp, Delano,
California, said:
"I'm not against the union, but
I can't get involved. I have a family
to support. If I quit work to strike,
they'll replace me. I want the bene­
fits of the union, sure, but I don't
want to get mixed up in any strike."
Annie Smith y su familia han se­
guido las cosechas durante muchos
