T h e S u p r e m e C o u r t , h o w e v e r , h e l d in 1875 ( M in o r v s H a p p e r - s e t t ) t h a t s u f f r a g e w a s n o t n e c e s s a r i l y o n e of th e p r iv i le g e s a n d im m u n itie s o f c it iz e n s p r o t e c t e d by t h e F o u r t e e n t h A m e n d m e n t .
