Page 4 Illinois Valley News, Cave Junction, OR Wednesday, June 30, 2004 Parks board applications due Workshop for youth performing arts slated By CRYSTAL SCHROETER Correspondent Valley resident Carrie Moore is using her talents to bring a Musical Theater Workshop for children beginning Thursday through Saturday, July 1-3 at Selma Community Cen- ter from 10 to 11:30 a.m. These first classes are offered at no cost to gauge interest level and ability; then the schedule will be arranged for more classes and the final performance. Moore, a playwright and dance instructor, offers this opportunity for chil- dren 4 and older, as well as some adults. Opportunities are of- fered to learn to sing, dance and act in a musical involving “a rekindling of Nature along with the hu- man spirit,” Moore said. Moore wrote the screenplay and dance, does the costuming, and organ- izes the production. Children need to wear comfortable clothes, bring a snack and be ready for instruction. For more in- formation phone Moore at (541) 761-4577. Applications from vol- unteers to fill vacancies on the Parks Advisory Board are being accepted by the Josephine County Board of Commissioners. St. Patrick of the Forest Catholic Church As we celebrate July 4, we will pray for all our sol- diers deployed around the world, and we will read from Luke’s Gospel where Jesus sent out in pairs ahead of him those whom he appointed. He told them, “Go on your way; behold I am send- ing you like lambs among wolves. ...Into whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this household’.” When they returned rejoicing, Jesus said, “Do not rejoice because the spirits are subject to you., but rejoice because your names are written in Heaven.” Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Evangelism. A word that sometimes strikes fear in the hearts of Christians and causes them to manufacture any number of reasons why they are unable to spread the word of God. Why? Are we afraid we will be ostracized, no longer cool, no longer part of the “in-crowd?” Does Jesus take this into account? Does he give us guidelines, room for excuses? No. He said, “Just do it.” Church activities include Sunday, July 4, 9 a.m., wor- ship.
