Parks board applications due
Workshop
for youth
performing
arts slated

Valley resident Carrie
Moore is using her talents
to bring a Musical Theater
Workshop for children
beginning Thursday
through Saturday, July 1-3
at Selma Community Cen-
ter from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
These first classes are
offered at no cost to gauge
interest level and ability;
then the schedule will be
arranged for more classes
and the final performance.
Moore, a playwright
and dance instructor, offers
this opportunity for chil-
dren 4 and older, as well as
some adults.
Opportunities are of-
fered to learn to sing,
dance and act in a musical
involving “a rekindling of
Nature along with the hu-
man spirit,” Moore said.
Moore wrote the
screenplay and dance, does
the costuming, and organ-
izes the production.
Children need to wear
comfortable clothes, bring
a snack and be ready for

Applications from vol-
unteers to fill vacancies on
the Parks Advisory Board
are being accepted by the
Josephine County Board of
Commissioners.
The purpose of the
board is to advise and as-
sist the director of Jose-
phine County Community
Development in locating
parcels of county land suit-
able for public parks.
The deadline for ac-
cepting applications is
Thursday, July 8.

MEMORIES OF COMRADES - Hundreds of people viewed the Vietnam Memorial
Traveling Wall in Grants Pass at Riverside Park from Thursday to Sunday, June 24-
27. The 400-foot-long replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall contains 57,000
names of the fallen. The visit was sponsored by Vietnam Veterans of America/
Chapter 867, Point Man Ministries, and Evergreen Federal Bank.
Fire danger increased to ‘high’ level
Fire danger has pro-
gressed from moderate to
high due to hot, dry, windy
weather, prompting Ore-
gon Dept. of Forestry
(ODF) to restrict activities
which have historically
caused wildfires.
As of Monday, June
28, Public Regulated Use
Closure restrictions are in
effect on all state, county,
private and BLM land
ODF protects in Josephine
and Jackson counties.
The following activi-
ties are prohibited:
*Outdoor burning.
*Campfires, except in
designated locations, such
as county and state parks.
*Fireworks use in ar-
eas of flammable vegeta-
tion such as dry grass,
brush, and other forested
areas, and on all federally
managed lands.
*Use of vehicles off
improved roads.
*Smoking in wildland
areas except in enclosed
vehicles while on im-
proved roads, free of flam-
mable vegetation.
*Public chain saw use
between 1 and 8 p.m.
*Non-agricultural
mowing of dry grass be-
tween 1 and 8 p.m.
*Non-agricultural,
non-commercial use of
power-driven machinery in
areas of flammable vegeta-
tion.
*Cutting, welding and
grinding of metal in areas
of flammable vegetation.
Six Illinois Valley
youth recently were in-
ducted into the 2003/2004
National Honor Roll for
their academic successes.
Those
honored:
Brandy Dillard and Dan-
ielle Streeter, both of
Selma; and Jesse Lorentz,
Lacey Madden, Anah
Peckham, and Echo Jinelle
Reagan, all of Cave Junc-
tion.
The National Honor
Roll has $100,000 to be
divided and awarded to
100 of its qualifying induc-
tees from the 2003/2004
school year.

Luke’s Gospel where Jesus

When they returned rejoicing,

give us guidelines, room for
excuses? No. He said, “Just
do it.”
