Redwood Hwy., CJ 592-4222 or 592-2892 A customer service program is being launched by the Southern Oregon Vi s ito r s As so ci at io n (SOVA) from a grant awarded by the U.S. Forest Service. The program will in- volve holding customer service workshops in rural communities including two in Illinois Valley. Quality training will be offered at the Illinois Valley Visitor Center on Tuesday, June 29 from 2 to 4 p.m. and at Oregon Caves Chateau on Wednesday, June 30 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 5 to 7:30 p.m. To register for train- ing, contact I.V. Commu- nity Response Team office at 592-4440 or phone the chateau at 592-3400 by Thursday, June 24. There is a fee. “We’re anxious to work with all tourism groups and chambers in the region in making sure this program reaches every rural community,” said Sue Price, owner of South- ern Oregon Marketing Consultants, which was awarded a contract by SOVA to manage the pro- gram. “The first phase will be developing a pocket size quick reference book- marker for front-line staff to present to tourists want- ing more information on things to do in the area,” said Price. As dur- ing the chamber’s first such event last year, food and prizes – besides golf – will be among attractions. The guide will supple- ment SOVA’s annual 72- page, full-color Vacation Guide. The final step of the program will be cus- tomer service training built around Oregon’s Q (Quality) Program, “It Pays to Please,” said Price. Marlene Lindley of the Oregon Tourism Commis- sion said, “The Q Program is designed to support training that may already be offered in local busi- nesses and will be avail- able statewide. “Plans call for a com- plete marketing and public awareness campaign to recognize local businesses who have participated through training their em- ployees, and it will empha- size the state’s commit- ment to top quality cus- tomer service as part of the new tourism marketing strategy.” The City of Cave Junction is offering a $500 REWARD for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible for the vandalism at the CJ Pool on Saturday/Sunday, June 12 and 13.
