Eleven classes, “more or less,” are planning get-togethers, or hoping that enough alumni will show up for their indi- vidual events. Illinois Valley High School and Kerby Union High School graduates will be involved in numerous gatherings and activities. Reunion ‘04 involves the following classes, 1944, 1949, 1954, 1959, 1964, 1969, 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989 and 1994. The reunion will get under way on Friday, July 2 at the Jubilee Park pavil- ion with a 4 p.m. annual meeting of IVHS Alumni and Friends. At 5:30 p.m. on Fri- day, the traditional Prowl- ers vs. Growlers softball game will be played on the Jubilee Park field. The program also in- cludes the 17th annual tournament at I.V. Golf Course on Saturday, July 3 with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The same day, there will be a “Focus on the ‘50s” dance in the Junction Inn from 8:30 p.m. to mid- night with deejay Ross Welcome. Another major event is the Sunday, 4th of July all- you-can-eat breakfast at the Jubilee Park pavilion from 8 to 11 a.m. “Cave Junction Cares” will pre- pare and serve the meal, and donate 10 percent of proceeds to the associa- tion’s scholarship fund. A silent auction will be conducted during breakfast and the subsequent picnic. The latter will begin around 11 a.m., and Shop Smart Food Warehouse is offering a special chicken box for alumni and friends. Members of the vari- ous classes will gather for meals and parties at vari- ous valley locations. Some will meet in valley cafes; others in private homes. Copies of the alumni newsletter listing activities and locations are available at Valley Bookkeeping, the “Illinois Valley News” office and other locations. Illinois Valley firefighters and American Medical Response medics remove injured teen-agers from a car approximately 6 miles westerly of Selma after the car in which they were riding went out of control and over an embankment. Four teen-agers hurt, one dead in Illinois River Road rollover crash A 16-year-old boy died and four other teen- agers were injured in a roll-over motor vehicle accident on Illinois River Road Sunday night, June 27, said Josephine County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO). Deceased is Paul S. Elling of Grants Pass. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Elling was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a 17- year-old Grants Pass resi- dent, Troy Alexander Walker, said JCSO. Others in the vehicle were identified by JCSO as Daniel L. Messer, 17, Jesse M. Andrews, 16, and Elizabeth A. Parrish, 16. All are from Grants Pass. According to JCSO Sgt. Ken Selig, the driver failed to negotiate a set of curves on Illinois River Road approximately 6 miles from Hwy. 199. The gold-colored, four-door Chevrolet Caprice rolled down a steep embankment before coming to rest up- side-down about 15 feet below the roadway. According to an inves- tigator, alcohol was a fac- tor in the wreck. JCSO deputies, medi- cal teams and firefighters from Illinois Valley Fire District and American Medical Response, and an Oregon State Police acci- dent reconstruction team, responded to the scene. The body of the youth was removed from the wreck some 6 1/2 hours after it occurred, with help from I.V. firefighters. Re- moval was delayed while accident details were re- constructed. Man subdued after escape attempt By SHANE WELSH Staff Writer A pepper-sprayed, wanted man who resisted arrest led Josephine County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a foot pursuit through Cave Junction af- ter fleeing from CJ Dairy Queen. Robert S. Brousseau, 40, address unknown, was contacted at CJ Dairy Queen just after 7 p.m. on Monday, June 28, by Dep- uty Josh White. He was wanted on a statewide fu- gitive warrant for abscond- ing parole for first-degree sex abuse. He was eventually subdued at 8:04 p.m. sev- eral blocks away from DQ. Besides the warrant he was charged with three counts of resisting arrest, three counts of attempted es- cape, and one count of as- sault on a public safety officer. Initially, White was contacted at the Illinois Valley Substation by a wit- ness who reported seeing the suspect at the DQ. Robert Brousseau When he attempted to arrest the subject, Brous- seau resisted and was pep- per-sprayed several times. He then fled on foot, al- though handcuffed, and ran several blocks to near the corner of Hussey Ave- nue and Schumacher Street, where he was lo- cated. White noted that Brousseau was still com- bative and attempting to run while in handcuffs. Illinois Valley Fire District firefighters were called to Dairy Queen due to the restaurant being filled with pepper spray, but found that it had dissipated. However, American Medical Response con- tacted a man outside the DQ, who had some spray in his eyes, but he was not transported. Brousseau was lodged at Josephine County Jail. Another charge is pending in connection with assault- ing a witness who aided in the arrest.
