As a member for many years and now as a board director, I am excited to see this growth in our hometown community group. We have moved beyond merely accepting grants for improving our community, to self- generated funding. This is a rare thing in a commu- nity organization, and we all feel it is a direct reflec- tion of the creativity and hard work of the valley residents. Because our revenue base has changed, the board, the committees, the general membership, and the community-at-large must partner more closely to create and support the endeavors that will benefit the valley. We need citi- zens to step forward, give us your input, join the CRT or renew your mem- berships, help initiate ideas for community improve- ment, and work on com- mittees with the board to design and implement pro- jects. Prior to the March 30 general meeting, where we will elect board directors and vote on bylaw changes, we have planned a series of small discussion groups throughout the val- ley to explain the transition and gather community in- put on the bylaws and fu- ture CRT enterprises. You may also join as a member at any of these meetings, or renew your member- ship. You only need to live or work in the valley to qualify. The meetings will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 6 p.m., Selma Com- munity Center, Selma; Monday, Feb. 11, 6 p.m., Takilma Community Cen- ter/Dome School, Takilma; Wednesday, Feb. 11, 6 p.m., LBMS gymnasium, Cave Junction. Membership renewal can be no later than Friday, Feb. 27 in order to vote at the general member meet- ing. We plan much more than a night of speeches and voting. We want to inspire and involve you in making this year of transi- tion the foundation year for a new, stronger, broad- based organization. It is undeniably hard work to go to meetings twice a week, hammer out policies with other very independent minded valley residents and give count- less hours for the positive benefit of the community. The rewards of seeing the creations of jobs, in- creased availability of skills trainings, technical support for new business endeavors and the creation of trade groups come to the valley has made it so very worth while. I am so honored to serve the community in this way and enthusiasti- cally invite you to join us. I like long walks especially when they are taken by people that annoy me. - Fred Allen - Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding or ourselves. - Carl Jung - The world belongs to the energetic. - Ralph Waldo Emerson - Remember to vote in the Tuesday, Feb. 3 special ballot election.
