Illinois Valley News, Cave Junction, OR Wednesday, January 28, 2004 Page 4 William H. Keith William Harding Keith, 83, of Cave Junc- tion, died Thursday, Jan. 22 at his home. A memorial service was held Tuesday, Jan. 27 at the Community Bible Church, in Cave Junction. The service was officiated by Rev. Roger McCay. Private interment was ar- ranged through Illinois Valley Funeral Home. Mr. Keith was born Nov. 14, 1920, in Somer- set, KY. He was a member of the National Guard, and a retired carpenter. He moved to Illinois Valley in 1994, from Hemet, Calif. He was a long-time member of Community Bible Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Keith is preceded in death by his wife Altrine Keith, who died Sept. 6, 2001. He is survived by two sons: Bryon Keith, of Cave Junction; and Darrell Keith, of Prescott, Ariz.; a daughter, Gerry Pearson, of Carson City, Nev.; six sisters: Anne Cleft, of Bull Head City, Ariz.; Aliene Hines, of Alexandria, KY; June Forti, of Upland, Calif.; Wilda Schmidt, of Grenada Hills, Calif.; Clara Priest, of Hemet, Calif.; and Elenore Scott, of Victorville, Calif.; a brother: Eugene Keith, of Hemet, Calif.; five grand- children and eight great- grandchildren. Calif.; nine grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild. Marvin L. Pullen Lifetime Illinois Val- ley resident Marvin Louis Pullen, 66, of O’Brien, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004 at his home. A memorial service was held Monday, Jan. 26 at Laurel Cemetery Chapel in Cave Junction. Hull and Hull Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Pullen was born Jan. 22, 1937 in Portland, and had lived all his life in Illinois Valley. He had served in the U.S. Army. He spent most of his working years as a commercial welder. He especially enjoyed gardening, fly tying, hunt- ing and traveling. He is survived by his brother, John Pullen, of Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. Mary E. Gray Mary Elizabeth Gray, 90, of Lower Grave Creek Road, Wolf Creek, died Thursday, Jan. 22 at a Grants Pass rehabilitation center. A service will be held at the Wolf Creek Commu- nity Alliance Church in Wolf Creek on Saturday, Jan. 31 with a viewing at noon with the service fol- lowing at 1 p.m. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Gray was born Oct. 30, 1913 in Sioux Falls, S.D. She married Charles William “Buster” Gray in 1929 in Baker Ore. In 1930 she moved to Butte Creek Flat on Lower Grave Creek to the home where she resided until a short time before her death. Mrs. Gray took in boarders during her first years on Grave Creek. She spent 25 years as a member of the Wolf Creek PTA, part of which she served as an officer. She also belonged to the Wolf Creek Civic Club. She liked sewing, gar- dening, reading tabloids, local history and bargain shopping at area thrift stores in her later years. She is survived by one son, Jack W. Gray, Wolf Creek; three daughters, Jill E. North, Central Point, Dorothy A. Piper, Reeds- port and Charlene M. Hickerson, Cave Junction; 11 grandchildren; 21 great- grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Applications for a vol- unteer position on the Jo- sephine County Budget Committee are being ac- cepted by the board of county commissioners. The committee meets publicly each spring to review and approve the budget documents as pro- posed by the budget offi- cer, elected officials, and department heads. The committee covers each county department and individual citizen testi- mony. Budget Committee members should develop an understanding of the budget process, the depart- ments and programs in- cluded in the budget. Deadline for accepting applications is Friday, Jan. 30. A memorial service will be conducted by her sons at the Fountain of Life Assembly of God in Cave Junction at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004. She was born in Grants Pass on April 1, 1912 to a pioneer family and lived all of her life in Josephine County, more than 60 years of which were in Illinois Valley. In 1930 she married Clarence Martin, her hus- band of 67 years who pre- ceded her in death in 1997. She was a committed Christian and a member of the Assemblies of God Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for most of her life.
