Besides the mobilization of dozens of ARC volunteers from across the nation, there was an outpouring of support and assistance from the Rogue Valley community. “Individuals and groups were coming to the shelter to volunteer their time, their ser- vices, and more. For a while there, we had more volunteers than residents, and it was truly an inspiration,” said Marj Jameson, CEO and Emer- gency Services Director for the Rogue Valley Chapter. Bill Blakely, Grants Pass office manager, added, “Our local merchants bent over backwards to provide us with goods and services. You know, we’re not an govern- ment agency, so we depend on volunteers and the generosity of neighbors in the area to provide for disaster relief. We just want to thank everyone who helped.” Blakely also served as shelter manager. ARC emergency relief is always provided free of charge, the organization said. It added that it is an inde- pendent humanitarian volun- teer organization that provides emergency relief to disaster victims. As part of the ARC network of chapters, the mis- sion of the Rogue Valley Chapter is to respond to the disaster needs of all citizens in Jackson and Josephine coun- ties.
