Albrich selected as latest Superstar Greg Albrich from the Facilities Department was selected as Chinook Winds Casino Resort’s Superstar for the third quarter of 2011. Tribal Elders, members of the Siletz Tribal Gaming Council, the Siletz Tribal Gaming Commission, Chinook Winds directors and several casino staff members were present at the Superstar ceremony on Oct. 27. In recognition of his achievement, Albrich was presented with a check for $1,000, a plaque, a pin and a marble tile that will be displayed at the front of the casino. To be eligible to receive the Superstar award, an employee’s observed actions must be above and beyond his or her regular duties or include a description of an employee who consistently advocates the core values and goals of the casino through excellence in service to guests and relationships with fellow employees. Nominations go through several reviews before a final selection is made. Both casino staff and casino guests can submit Superstar nominations. With more than 700 employees and only four of these awards given each year, it’s a real honor to be chosen as the Superstar. Nominated by both a co-worker and a guest, Albrich’s nominations included the following combination of com ments: “Greg has a strong work ethic and a wonderful sense of humor. He is an exemplary employee - always pleas ant regardless of daily pressure. Greg is totally dependable and cooperative in all situations and always goes out of his way to meet the needs of everyone, no matter how big or small. To our guests he is a hero, especially to an elderly woman with a walker that the wheels were making so much noise that she was not able to use it as intended and she had to pick it up so it didn’t make all that noise. Greg came to her rescue and in an instant repaired her walker. The guest was so happy and the look on her face was priceless. Greg took the time to help this elderly guest and prove that CWCR employees really do exceed all expectations and embody our BEACH core values!” Other nominees included Mindy Smith, Pamela Gogas, Steve Kirsch and Ken Howell. What’s new at Chinook Winds? By Teresa Simmons, Community Relations Manager If you’re not at Chinook Winds on a daily basis, you might not notice the subtle changes that take place, but after a few days’ absence they’re really evident. Improvements happen so seamlessly there just isn’t much disruption while they are in progress. If you have really looked at the hotel lately, you might say to yourself, “I know something has changed, but what?” Take a look at the roof, the railing and the trim. The native basket design is still there, but now it blends with the building. Some how it just goes well. Inside, the rooms have been freshened up and the beds have been changed out. Then you step into Chinook’s Sea food Grill and notice that it seems more spacious and elegant. The changes aren’t huge, but they are effective - a different location for the steps to the upper dining area; new carpeting, paint and windows; an expanded dance floor in the lounge; and more. By the time this article is published, the remodel in the buffet will be com plete and it will have a whole new look along with different entrees. The buffet has been operating effectively during the entire remodel. The lower gaming floor has been reconfigured, making it more open and giving it a less-crowded feeling. The music has changed and now can be heard at the entrance to the casino. Dancing on the way into the casino is something that just might happen! Phones are answered and calls routed quickly with the new phone system. Customer service just continues to improve with ongoing staff training. Guests at Chinook Winds are notic ing the changes and we’re hearing lots of positive comments. There’s more to come. We’ll keep you posted.
