TLC attitudes of gratitude - Have a clear purpose and goals for your life 2011 SVS Spring Performance: Language and Cultural Sharing By Lynn Whitlow If “April showers bring May flowers,” what do April hail stones and snow flurries bring? My answer: A warm coat out of the closet and a higher electric bill (I am grateful for the coat and electricity!).'Sun, please come home. We miss you! I read somewhere that we, like private nonprofit organizations and large corpora tions, would better understand why we are here and where we are going if we created our own mission statement. Having clear purpose in our lives can keep us from wasting a lot of time drifting through life, following dead ends, walking dangerous paths and wasting needless dollars. When we know what our purpose and goals are in life, we can plan activities that enhance our mission and help us attain our goal - and give us things for which we can be grateful. Something to think about... At the TLC, residents are asked to focus on their gratitude. It has been agreed upon that this positive focus does enhance life. It does not take away the “nasties” in life, but it does provide new strength to face them and problem-solve. I’m blessed to have been given such a precious angel, with no condi tions whatsoever. Every day I’m graced with the presence of many people. I want to thank people for giving me wise, honest and courageous love. I’ve come to believe that a seed planted will, in fact, grow to a beautiful flower. I’m also grateful for my new babysitter. She ‘rocks.’ Smile!” “All my family has so much love for me and is supporting my recovery all the way. I’m grateful to have a working car and a beautiful home. Thank you to everyone.” Again we are grateful to the volunteers who give their loving attention to the TLC and its residents - Alice McCain and Denise Riding In. It is with sorrow that we face the “resignation” of Alice McCain, a volunteer here for 6V2 years, who is leaving the state with her husband to be closer to children and grandchildren. Their departure not only is a loss to the TLC, but also to the commu nity of Siletz and much of Lincoln County. Both have been active in local community organizations and in their church, Samaritan House and other activities. We wish them well and are grateful for their service! Also, the tulip bulbs that Sharia Robinson and Tre Jackson planted last fall have bloomed and the yellows, pinks and reds are warming to the heart. Thank you again for your heart-filled labor and dirty hands! “Dvlh-ghvlh, Dvlh-ghvlh, In-st'vm Svn-ta" (Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star) “ We are shooting for the stars?” Volunteer for Prevention Program If you are interested in volunteering with the Prevention Program, here are some specific guidelines: This event is brought to you by the Siletz Tribe in partnership with Siletz Valley Schools. • • For moro Information, please contact Cova St. Onge, STLP Coordinator Phone: 541-444-1038 • E-malt: covas@ctsi.nsn. us • • • For Information about Agent Orange, possible health-related problems and VA benefits: Any question regarding this process, please contact Jenifer Met calf, Prevention coordinator, at jeniferm@ctsi.nsn.us or 800-600-5599 or 541-444-9618.
