TRIBAL PROGRAM NEWS Underage Drinking Survey Results Ask Raven Raven will answer your questions about problems associated with alco hol, tobacco, and other drugs. You can call in your questions to the numbers below or mail them to: Raven P.O. Box 549 Siletz, OR 97380-0549 Dear Raven, I know that there has been a lot done so that we don't have meth labs in our communities. But there still seems to be a lot of meth around. Where is it coming from? (Unsigned) My Friend: You are right. Meth is still very easy to get. even though we no longer have problems with labs. Oregon and many other states have taken a strong stand and made it very hard for people to get the ingredients needed to make meth. That is great news for our environment and tor the children who would otherwise live in homes where meth is made. The meth we now see is mostly coming into the United States from Mexico. There are good people who are working internationally to reduce or even stop the supply of meth com pletely. A CEDARR member. Rob Bovett, is one of those people and we ravens really appreciate his efforts. Rob recently was awarded the Gov ernor's Golden Award for all his work reducing meth. Congratulations, Rob! Even though we still see a lot of people still struggling with meth addic tion. I have hope that as meth is harder to get and treatment programs continue to be available, we will start to see fewer people devastated by this drug. Thank you for writing. Raven ATOD (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs) Prevention bv Delina John Siletz Valley School, Tribal Prevention staff, and Lincoln County are working together on the Metham phetamine Awareness Project (MAP). This project gives interested middle school students an opportunity to participate in making meth awareness videos that could be chosen tor broadcast on a major television station. All interested middle school students were invited to participate in a poster contest for the No Meth. Not Here campaign. The top three winners will be involved in making the posters along with MAP project youth. This spring, the videos will be shown at the Newport Center for the Performing Arts. We will notify the community when we know the dates for this exciting event! Delinquency Prevention by Jenifer Metcalf The Community Accountability Board (CAB) is once again active and serving tribal youth. Juvenile departments refer youth who are in legal trouble and eligible for diversion. CAB volunteers meet with the youth and parents/guardians to develop a culturally specific diver sion plan to help the youth have a posi tive diversion experience and give back to their own community. Volunteers are always needed. If you are age 18 or older, a positive role model in your community, and inter ested in being a resource to tribal youth, please contact me at 1-800-600-5599 or 541-444-8267. Volunteer trainings are held several times a year. All volunteers must fill out an application and agree to a crimi nal background check. Parents - If you think your child may be at risk for alcohol, tobacco, or other drug problems and/or delin quency behaviors, please call Delina or Jenifer at I -800-600-5599 or 541-444-8267.
