TRIBAL PROGRAM NEWS Finances, Housing are Subjects of New Class by Yvonne Messmer, Housing Finance Manager Winter Home Maintenance Checklist Did you make any New Year’s resolutions? Do you think you will cre ate a budget and stick to it? Clean up some flaws on your credit report? Start saving toward that house or education you want? Refinance your current home and do some remodeling with the equity? Be able to buy your first home? Maybe you are just interested in understand ing about finances a little more. If any of these things hit your list, you may be interested in a class that I am teaching. It's all about finances, credit, budgeting, maintaining your home, and how to buy a home. Watch for a class in your area. If you have questions about any of the above, don't hesitate to just call me. Drain two gallons from electric H2O heaters to remove silt buildup. Dust off or clean electric space heaters. Check all smoke detectors and re place batteries as needed. Check window and door caulking or weather-stripping. Clean forced air vents for maxi mum output. Check caulking around tub and sinks. Replace any old or cracked caulking. Clean leaves from gutters. Make sure water can flow freely. Cover any outside water faucets with proper weatherproofing. Check furnace filters. Replace any dirty or built-up filters. During the coming months, the tribe's Planning Department staff will be developing and distributing dif ferent surveys at different times to determine tribal membership needs. We want to send out several dur ing the year that are targeted to spe cific areas of service needs. For ex ample, we plan to distribute a survey targeting tribal veterans to determine how we can best plan tor resource development. In 2006. we distributed a hous ing survey to the 1 I-county service area in Oregon. This coming year, we Come One, Come All! would like to distribute a more com prehensive housing and housing- related services survey to the entire membership for input. We are providing this notice in advance in hopes that when you re ceive the survey you will take the time to complete it. The information will, as always, be confidential. Please consider this your oppor tunity to give input into the ongoing process that starts with the l()-year comprehensive plan and expands to cover unmet needs. Thank you in advance.
