TRIBAL MEMBER NEWS The Journey Respectfully, Eva E. Clayton Healy Transport's new truck for their new long-haul trucking business Healy Transport - A NewTribal Business Priceless adventures full of loop holes, hurdles, and character-building blocks. Is there any doubt the impor tance of culture camp? We have many manipulating fin gers in the big pie in the sky. Dress up and attend the many func tions that hopefully bring out the best in our social skills. Work hard to strengthen relationships that benefit the causes of whatever. Wine and dine potential allies. Show and tell our support in all the maybe possibilities. Make that all-important photo shoot, a remembrance of been there, done that. Chase behind a schedule we can’t quite catch. When weary or a might downtrod den by an overload of I think 1 can, I think 1 can, delegating is the connect ing link. Knock, usually one receives an invitation to enter. The important connection - people. Tribal families, friends are a valuable resource. Monetary values are second ary if our baskets have no bottoms. The hub of our tribal wheel must be our family. If not. then we are just a share holding corporation with a steel heart. I hear laughter; I feel the spin of the circle, sparkle of the gathering. Here we go again and again. What if there was no again and again? Our descendant children (all of them), precious elders (all of them), sur vivor families (all of them), a melting pot of who we truly are again and again. I am going to review my past, play in the present, and dream up my fu ture. See you at culture camp. by Rosie Sufficool, STBC Business Information Counselor For Siletz Tribal member Jenera Healy and her husband, Daniel, the op portunity to start their own long-haul trucking business recently became a reality with the help of the Siletz Small Business Loan Program. Healy Transport will provide long- haul trucking services for a variety of companies. Before receiving the loan, the Healys developed a business plan and met other program qualifications re quired by the Small Business Program. It was a busy time for the Healys. In addition to buying a truck and start ing their own business, they were await ing the birth of their first child, a son, who arrived shortly after they received the loan (Siletz News, April 2006). Daniel Healy, who has several years of experience in long-haul trucking, will do the driving while Jenera will take care of the financial part of the business. “The loan enabled us to get a truck and be in business for ourselves,” Jenera Healy said. “We appreciate the opportunity the Siletz Tribe has given us." Jenera Healy prepared a business plan for the loan application, provided other supporting documents, and partici pated in one-on-one business counseling.
