Ore. Several people participated in the opening ceremonies, including Delores Pigsley, tribal chairman; Janet Taylor, mayor of Salem; Rick Stucky, Salem City Council member; Kate Tarter, chairman of the Northgate Neighbor hood Association; Lori Davis, chair of Urban Renewal; and Neil Amondson, project manager. “The wait was worth it." said Delores. “You can see what we have here, a beautiful space.” Delores and the Siletz Tribal Coun cil cut a red. white, and blue ribbon to open the ceremonies. The ribbon held special significance - one part of it was from the opening of “The Tent" in Lin coln City and another part was from the opening of the permanent Chinook Winds building. “It’s very special to see this type of high quality development happen in your community,” said Mayor Taylor. “Your commitment to your community, the jobs you bring, make Salem the best city in Oregon." Jessie Davis and Donita Free will manage the RV resort. In addition to 140 spaces, it includes state-of-the-art hookups, clubhouse and outdoor gazebo, swimming pool and sauna, playground, meeting and game rooms, television and Internet access, lull laun dry facilities, and 24-hour security. For reservations and more informa tion. call 1-877-564-7295. The RV resort is located at 3150 Blossom Drive NE. Just north of the expansive RV re sort parking lot lies the 39,000-square- foot office building that soon will house the Salem Area Office and USDA food distribution warehouse. The building should open for oc cupancy June 1. The Salem office and USDA warehouse should occupy about 20 percent of the space. What’s » Inside Letters to the Editor Chairman's Report Tribal Program News Tribal Member News Notices V__________ _____ —---------------------------------------------- —■ 3 5 I I 14 by Judy Muschamp In a recent meeting of tribal leaders and agencies within the Department of Health and Human Services, Dr. Charles Grim, director of the Indian Health Service, announced awardees for this year's Small Ambulatory Program (SAP). The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians had submitted a grant applica tion to IHS to increase the square foot age of the Siletz Community Health Clinic and renovate existing space to allow for improved patient care. I was so pleased to be on hand when Dr. Grim announced that Siletz was one of seven grants funded with this year s SAP allocation. We received the maxi mum award — $2 million — which will be combined with other resources le veraged to total an approximately $7.5 million project. The grant award allows for a full year of planning, design, and comple tion of required environmental assess ments. When completed, all Tribal Health Department programs will be housed in one location, including Con tract Health Services and the Tribal Alcohol and Drug Program. A team has been developed, rep resenting all departments and admin istration. to ensure all needs are con sidered in this important project. Naomi Shadwick, tribal grant writer, and Lu Cavanaugh, consultant, worked closely with Health Depart ment staff to prepare the grant applica tion. It was based on the outcomes of the Siletz Tribal Master Plan for Facili ties and Services that was led by Marlene VanNoy. administrative/qual- ity improvement coordinator for the Siletz Clinic, and myself. Needless to say. we're very excited about this opportunity to improve ser vices to our tribal members and pa tients.
