LETTERS TO THE EDITOR To the editor: I would like to thank all of the people who took the time to vote not only for me, but also for whomever they chose. Obviously, a lot of the tribal mem bers felt the same as me that it was time for change. We can only hope that our new council members will remember that it was the vote of the people that put them in the office that they now hold. And that this change in council will remind some of our other council members that it is the vote of the people that can take you To the editor: I’d like to talk about stealing (theft). My mom gave me a large wood cutting board, it was about 32" long and 16" wide. It was made in a shop for her; she gave it to me. I let this guy borrow it who lives in the same apartment complex and now he refuses to give it back to me. This is steal ing (theft). I gave him a rice cooker, blender, washcloths, clothes, household cleaning materials, and cash. There were times when he went to the store for me, I’d give him cash and he would pay for it with his food stamps. That way, he had cash for alcohol/drugs. I talked to Housing and they told me they couldn’t do anything to get it back for me, I talked to Tribal Police and he couldn't do anything for me. Then I wrote a letter to the Housing Commissioners and never heard back from them. Housing said that there is no policy regarding theft in tribal housing, so noth ing can be done. I forgot about the time this guy was drinking at my sister’s home. Her son had some baseball cards that he was collect ing. When he thought everyone was asleep, he went into all the bedrooms and searched their dressers and looked into their drawers. One of the kids woke up and watched him search their rooms. out of the office when you forget that you are there to do the best for all of our tribal members, not just a select few. Look for my name on the ballot next time because I still feel that we need younger people to represent our needs on the council. Again, thank you to all who took the time to vote. Sincerely, Derek Simmons When they woke up in the morning, he was gone and so were her son’s base ball cards and a pair of new Levi’s pants. When you’re an alcoholic or drug addict, you do what you do best, that is steal. You have to feed these habits, so how do you feed it? You steal, sell, or trade for it. The tribe needs to get rid of General Assistance. These people should be work ing, not making a living on it. There’s nothing wrong with them. If they say they cannot work, require them to apply for SSI. GA and food stamps aren’t appreci ated by some, especially those trading food for alcohol and drugs, including pain pills. Those who trade their and other drugs are no better than the drug addict. These people are not suffering any pain. If they were, they wouldn’t sell or trade their pain pills or other prescription drugs. Maybe it’s time to UA people on GA and TANF. As long as there’s a drug prob lem, there will always be theft, and the tribe needs a policy to help those they steal from. When you're an alcoholic, drug ad dict, or gambler these will always come first, before your children, family, friends, bills, and needed household items. Respectfully, William Stanley Strong To the editor: I’ve been to our casino several times this year when it was real busy and be lieve me, it gets real, real busy. I've no ticed lines of people at the main cashier area that go clear to the gaming tables. These people were standing in line because at least half of the cashier cages are closed. Standing in line has always been a problem when the place was busy and has steadily gotten worse since the casino was enhanced with the purchase of the hotel. The new upper parking area and new RV park enhanced it even more. The tribe never spared a dime when it came to making these necessary and much-needed attractions. I was in favor of all of them. What I'm not in favor of is pinching dimes together when it comes to customer service. Customers don't want to stand in long lines and look at closed cashier cages; they want to gamble. When our casino is real busy and crowds are big, I feel that all cashier cages To the editor: I would like to thank everyone who helped me back in September 2004 with the burial of our Mother! Member of the Native American Journalists Association and change-making stations should be occupied and open for business. What are they there for? Anything less would merit a serious reprimand. If the problem were to continue? Termination is in order. Our casino should be absolutely fa mous for “No Gambler Stands In Line," they only stand in line for concerts, food, and the lounge. The receiving areas for these places are small and can handle only so many people, sorry. They just might chance a buck or two and come back when the lines thin out. Bottom line? 1 honestly feel like my per capita money is being short-changed and I don’t like it. I'm going to be a real pest with this concern, so I’ll be keeping in touch. Woody Muschamp P.S. Don’t get me wrong; closed cash ier cages and change-making stations are necessary and acceptable when business is slow and crowds are small. Tracy Fisher for being my support dur ing this emotional time. Thank you and I love you all! A Hoh Lil' Annie Eddings Mom wanted to go on the Run for the Rogue 2004, but her health prevented it.
