TRIBAL PROGRAM NEWS TLC Attitudes of Gratitude We have had a good and active month at the TLC. We’ve been hauling up loads of firewood (good exercise) to take off the evening chill. Then a new thermostat was installed and we have been ‘‘snug as a bug!” We have had a lot of support this past month. An other agency shared some blankets. Anita Wheeler do- nated pretty glass relish dishes for our festive occasions and Christmas decorations. Lynn Whitlow donated tree lights, coffee, spices,popcom, and other decorations. Linda Tough gave us some educa neous items. Debbie of Toledo Florist gifted us with several items. We are grateful to each donor for her generosity. We so appreciate Jackie Ashley, Alice McCain, Joan Hartung, Denise Riding In, Carrie White, and Lisa Brown for faithfully filling overnight shifts and to Selene for strengthening our residents with her morning support/ meditation groups. We hold a Women’s Talking Circle monthly, usually on the second Wednes day of the month. It’s still quite a challenge to imple ment the fresh produce program. The staff truly appreciates the patience of the clients who are waiting and also the help that we receive when we are serving. Thank you, Daniel Brown and Bobby Joe Brandt, for all your hard work here at the Siletz warehouse. Tuesday, Jan 18 1:30 p.m. - 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan 19 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan 20 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Please note that Jan. 17 is a holi day, therefore we will start distribution on Jan. 18. We were very fortunate to receive capital funds from the federal USDA budget that made it possible to purchase a very nice walk-through cooler/freezer for our Salem warehouse. It was a much-needed item and we will be able to preserve the fresh produce during the hot summer months. Additionally, when we receive items like the frozen ham, buffalo, and bison, we now have plenty of freezer space that will allow our Salem clients to also have the benefit of these bonus items. Thank you to all of our clients who jump right in and help when you see that we are a bit overwhelmed with lots of distribution and file work. Cody Cole - thank you for being a terrific ware houseman at our Salem warehouse. Happy Meals and hope 2005 is a very healthy year for everyone. Native American Studies Position Open at PSU Jon Duarte and Jack McCord III are sworn in as Siletz Tribal Police Depart ment reserve officers by Chief Judge Calvin Gantenbein in December. New Native American Studies Program (currently offering minor) at Portland State University seeks tenure line assistant or associate professor of Native American Studies. Program is rooted in civically active urban and re gional Native communities and is com mitted to strengthening that rootedness. Search committee will consider all disciplines, areas of research/scholar- ship, and teaching, but qualified appli cants must show promise of tenure in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Preference for commitment to interdisciplinarity and to research in and partnership with local/regional Native communities. Substantial experience living, work ing, and/or participating in a Native community(ies), or interacting with Native populations required, as is commitment to PSU’s diversity curricu lum. Ph.D. or other appropriate termi nal degree (or scheduled defense date) required. Teaching experience and pub lications preferred. PSU is an AA/EO institution and, in keeping with the president's diver sity initiative, welcomes applications from diverse candidates and candidates who support diversity.
