Tribe Helps Library Meet Challenge Grant Goal The Siletz Tribe’s $48,000 grant in December helped the Siletz Valley Friends of the Library (SVFOL) secure funding from several foundations that had issued challenge grants to the group. The $48,000 helped put SVFOL over the $500,000 mark, which was needed to secure the grants. The tribe’s contributions to the li brary total $148,000, which will help construct a 4,200-square-foot building that will include a program room, chil dren’s area, small study room, adult read ing area, and space for six computers. The city of Siletz has donated a 20,000-sqare-foot lot next to the post office on which to build the library. In-kind donations have started to come in, including site preparation ser vices (scraping and removing sod, brush cutting, grading, excavating, and hauling) by W.W. Construction and Darrel Sax Brush Cutting, and flooring from Carpet Etc./Carpet One. Another $245,000 is needed to help SVFOL, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organi zation, break ground on the new build ing. I was sworn in on Jan. 10 and the first meet ing proved to be a busy one. One of the main agenda items for the evening was the tribe’s upcoming application for putting newly acquired property into trust. I’m happy to report Siletz News Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians P.O. Box 549 Siletz, OR 97380-0549 that the tribe put together a strong pre sentation and, with the listing of some areas of concern that the tribe will have to consider during the trust process, the community was largely supportive of the tribe’s efforts. 1 look forward to representing Siletz Tribal members and Siletz com munity members during my tenure on City Council.
