To my redheaded Uncle Don, thank you for stopping by every single day of my pregnancy with a Twix and every day since we have been home. Mom, you have been my rock. Thank you for all you do for us. Without you, I’m not too sure I could do as well as I’ve done so far. I will be eternally grateful. Auntie Mandy, you are doing a great job and you are learning more every day. It’s almost your turn, OK. Uncle Ricky Suterball, Auntie Jamie - thank you for your morning stops and for all your help up at Doembecher Children’s Hospital. Hey, brother - thank you for staying with me and putting up with me at the end when Jep went out fishing. Just to let everyone know, I do have the best family and friends in the world. Her great auntie is Marci Taylor and great-great-great uncle is Phil Rilatos Sr. She also has numerous great-great uncles and aunties. Welcome into this big world, precious angel. We are all so excited about your arrival and being the first for us all. □ Siletz News Getting a chaperon who is available to be out of state at a certain time is not always a “walk in the park” either. Thanks to Aunty Selene Rilatos for helping me through the Miss NCAI pageant. Not only does an “ambassador,” or you can even call me a “princess,” need a chaperon to watch over her, but she needs a person to be a coach, dresser, nurse, and sometimes just to be there. Another big thanks goes out to my parents for providing the way to New Mexico for the Miss Indian World Pageant in conjunction with the Gathering of Nations Pow-Wow. If it wasn’t for my parents paying my way to compete for this title, I would not have even have made it to the pageant. Thanks to Grandma Maxine Rilatos and my parents for helping me through this tough week of being up early in the morning and staying up late at night for all the events for the Miss Indian World pageant. Thanks to Aunt Selene, Cousin Sam Lynch, and Cousin Rena Brandt for coming to New Mexico to support me in this competition. Another hurdle to jump over is the sale of raffle tickets. To enter the Miss Indian World Pageant, a potential contestant must sell a minimum of 500 tickets. Big thanks go to Aunt Vai Hibdon for taking on the challenge of sales in Oregon. Also big thanks to everyone who bought tickets. For the talent show presentation at the pageant, I needed to show who the Siletz/Coastal people are with a traditional talent. Thanks to Robert Kentta and Bud Lane for recording Adams Family Reunion Oct. 16, 2004 Siletz Tribal Community Center Dinner served at noon Contact Pete (Running Man) Downey for more information, 541-336-2938. Thank you to them all! 12 It’s been a fun year as Miss Siletz 2003-2004.1, Tiffany Dawn Stuart, will remember this year for years to come. I have been to more than 20 events this year while wearing the Miss Siletz crown made by Bonnie Petersen. To whoever continues with the title of Miss Siletz, remember that you are the “ambassador” for our people and everyone is watching you. Not only do you represent your family and the community, but you also have an obligation to represent the Siletz Nation to many tribes, government officials, celebrities, and others. The times I will remember the most during my reign are with my family and friends at the pow-wows and pageants I competed in throughout the year. In January, I was head lady at a local pow-wow and to see old friends and be with my family is one of the good times that I had at many of the small and big pow-wows. I want to give big thanks to my parents, Thomas and Marlene Stuart, for supporting me financially through the pow-wows and with the giveaway in January and in August. Being in pageants is not always “easy as pie.” Paying for the hotel at the Hyatt was very expensive but very convenient for being a contestant for Miss NCA1 (National Congress of American Indians). Thanks to the Siletz Tribe and Pow-Wow Committee for paying my room and $400 entry fee in the pageant. Also thanks to the Siletz Tribe for the airfare for myself and a chaperon to Albuquerque, N.M.
