Coastal Rhythm & Blues Concert Returns to Chinook Winds Casino Coastal Rhythm & Blues is returning to Chinook Winds Casino on July 10. Fans of the music genre will be treated to live performances from three acclaimed entertainers - Richard Smith, Linda Hombuckle, and the Mel Brown B-3 Quartet with special guest Sweet Baby James In the jazz world, Oregon-raised guitarist Richard Smith has built a strong reputation as a sideman and session guitarist. His own records have established him as a veteran of the contemporary jazz world with strong chart action and critical success on every one of his seven solo releases. His albums have garnished praise such as “Best Contemporary Jazz Guitar Album” (Tune Up Magazine), a nomination for “Record of the Year” (Ad Lib Magazine, Tokyo), and “Best New Artist” (Radio & Records Magazine). Oregon’s own Grammy-nominated artist, Linda Hombuckle, will wow the crowd backed by her stellar band. Real Blues magazine describes Hombuckle as “the most beautiful and powerful blues/gospel/soul voice in the Pacific Northwest ... real, honest-to- goodness soulful power of a magnitude that will leave you breathless.” Mel Brown’s credits attest to his ability. Noted for his work with The Supremes, The Temptations, Diana Ross, Martha and The Vandellas, and numerous jazz musicians, Brown has firmly established himself as one of America’s foremost drummers. It’s almost hard to believe that someone of his stature grew up in Portland. He’s even played with The Beatles - he’s the drummer on the group’s release of My Sweet Lord. Brown toured with Diana Ross from 1979 to 1990. It was with Ross that Brown gave his most memorable concert when they played at the Royal Albert Hall and the Queen of England came to hear them. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the first band onstage at 7 p.m. A food court and no host bar, as well as non alcoholic beverages, will be available. Tickets are $15 for this event, which is open to guests 21 and older. JULY Nine Bands Featured at Dixieland Jazz Festival Jazz fans rejoice! From July 22 through July 25, nine different jazz bands will take the stage throughout this four-day event in three separate showrooms. Fans of the genre will appreciate the talented line-up and reasonable ticket prices. Tickets to each show are just $10. For the music aficionado who prefers the flexibility of attending most or all of the shows or flitting between the rooms, an all-shows pass is available for just $50. Guests must be age 21 or older to attend.
