It’s Happening at Chinook Winds ... Coastal Rhythm & Blues II Chinook Winds Casino has scheduled the second annual Coastal Rhythm & Blues concert and dance for Nov. 30. Three Northwest rhythm & blues bands, Linda Hombuckle, Patrick Lamb and Norman Sylvester, will each perform for 90 minutes. The concert will conclude with a grand finale master jam session. Linda Hornbuckle, the Northwest’s “diva of soul,” brings her soul-tinged hybrid of blues, R&B, and soul to the convention center. The Patrick Lamb Band, featuring Patrick Lamb on the sax and vocalist Debra Crowe, will bring its own brand of jazz (a combination of funk,jazz, and modem pop) to this concert. The Norman Sylvester Band, featuring Norman ‘The Boogie Cat” Sylvester, started performing in the Portland area in 1985. The band has shared the stage with B.B. King, Buddy Guy, James Cotton, Junior Wells, Otis Clay, Tower of Power, and many more national blues stars. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the music running from 7 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are available at the box office for $12 in advance and $15 at the door • • • • • • Join pigskin fans at Chinook Winds lounge for an entire weekend of football fun every weekend! Purchase a 2002 football mug for $5, with refills for $ 1.25 on all domestic draft beers during games on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays only. Bring your 2002 football mug in each week and receive domestic draft beers for $1.25 during games. Random drawings for prizes (one ticket will be given to each guest with each bever age purchased). Must be present to win (some game times may vary). Prizes may vary according to supplies. Potential prizes include hats, T-shirts, jackets, sweatshirts, backpacks, collector’s mugs, and special football whistles. Battle at the Beach in November Battle at the Beach Olympic-style amateur boxing is sanctioned by USA Boxing, the official amateur boxing association. Senior youth boxers - * including some Olympic hopefuls - from age 16 and up * will be featured at this event on Nov. 22. Twelve four-round bouts consisting of two-minute rounds are scheduled. Venues such as this help establish youth Monday Night Football Fun • • • • Free stadium-style food at halftime. Roll the dice for drink specials when your ticket number is called at the end of each quarter. Guests selected by ticket drawings. (Rules: Four halftime participants have one chance each to throw the Nerf football through the center of “Lifesaver.” If more than one contestant throws through the center, a toss-off will take place at the end of the third quarter. Further ties will toss off again at the end of the fourth quarter until there is a winner. Local radio celebrity Roger Robertson will be the ring announcer for this night of excitement featuring up-and- coming Northwest amateur boxers. Battle at the Beach is open to all ages. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the action begins at 6 p.m. Dance to McKenzie River Band Pull on your boots and get ready to two-step to the McKenzie River Band. Chinook Winds invites country music lovers to the convention center as it presents a monthly country dance complete with a super-sized dance floor, a no-host bar, and one hour of free dance lessons prior to the dance. The McKenzie River Band, former winners of the Marlboro Talent Round- Up, has opened for Billy Dean, Marty Football Mania • by Teresa Simmons Stuart, George Strait, and Alabama. It has been nominated for the Northwest Area Music Association’s NAMA Award for the Top Country Act in the Northwest and has won the Portland Music Association’s Crystal Award for Portland’s Outstanding Country Act. The dance will take place Nov. 29. Tickets, priced at $7 in advance and $ 10 on the day of the show, are available at the box office. Comedy Night on the Coast Chinook Winds Casino invites you to become hysterical, laugh until your sides ache, and giggle with uncontrolled glee at Comedy Night on the Coast. This night of fun features a trio of comedians in a 90-minute show. The next Comedy Night on the Coast is set for Nov. 29 and 30 with Kenny Bob Davis as the headliner. Tim Haldeman will be the featured act and Mike “Wally” Walter will host. Kenny Bob Davis, who has been described as “a very hip, countrified George Carlin,” is a professional comedian and singer who plays guitar and bluegrass banjo and loves golf. He also is an actor, comedy writer, and improvisation specialist whose television credits include Sunset Beach, Mad TV, Murder She Wrote, Comedy Shop, and many others. Davis, who is returning to Chinook Winds after a successful engagement in June, has headlined at top comedy clubs such as The Improv, Zanies Comedy Showplace, and The Funny Bone, and opened for the likes of George Bums, Kenny Rogers, and Willie Nelson. Whether you know it or not, you probably have seen Tim Haldeman. The actor come stand-up comic has performed in more than 100 television shows and movies. Among his many credits are appearances on The West Wing, Malcolm in the Middle, ER, Once and Again, The Drew Carey Show, Sabrina The Teenage Witch and Third Rock From The Sun. Over the last decade, Haldeman has developed a stand-up routine that he’s performed across the country, including sold-out shows at The Sahara in Las Vegas and at the Atlantis Hotel in Atlantic City. Mike “Wally” Walter has appeared on Showtime, MTV and America’s Funniest People. He was a two-time finalist in the prestigious Seattle Comedy Competition and has been nominated for an American Comedy Award for Nightclub Comic of the Year. The final comedy night for 2002 will take place Dec. 27 and 28, with host Mike “Wally” Walter; Henry Cho, headliner; and Gary Brightwell, featured act. Doors open at 8 p.m.; show time is 9 p.m. A no-host bar will be available. Tickets, priced at $10 in advance and $ 12 on the day of the show, are available at the box office.
