Box 549 Siletz, OR 97380-0549 Delores Pigsley, Tribal Chairman Brenda Bremner, General Manager and Editor-in-Chief Youth Media Activities Start This Fall The Tobacco Prevention and Education Program has obtained a new grant for the Siletz Tribe. The $75,000 grant is an award from the American Legacy Foundation in Washington, D.C., for a youth media project. After a long and busy process of researching, writing, rewriting, and two submissions, the application was approved. The American Legacy Foundation approved less than 20 percent of the applicants for the Priority Populations grant. Applications were submitted from all over the U.S. The grant award helps the tribe with a one-year project called the Siletz Youth Media Tobacco Prevention Project. An educational video, educational posters, brochures, and a Web site will be created that will feature Siletz Tribal youth. The grant also will create a part-time coordinator to manage the new project. Keep an eye out for announcements regarding this project. Lots of youth activities are planned. We strongly encourage your school-age kids to get involved in this project, which also will include kids in outlying areas.
