Youth Media Activities Start This Fall
The Tobacco Prevention and
Education Program has obtained a new
grant for the Siletz Tribe. The $75,000
grant is an award from the American
Legacy Foundation in Washington,
D.C., for a youth media project.
After a long and busy process of
researching, writing, rewriting, and two
submissions, the application was
approved. The American Legacy
Foundation approved less than 20
percent of the applicants for the Priority
Populations grant. Applications were
submitted from all over the U.S.
The grant award helps the tribe with
a one-year project called the Siletz
Youth Media Tobacco Prevention
Project. An educational video,
educational posters, brochures, and a
Web site will be created that will feature
Siletz Tribal youth. The grant also will
create a part-time coordinator to
manage the new project.
Keep an eye out for announcements
regarding this project. Lots of youth
activities are planned. The k :ds involved
in the project will actually learn how to

Native youth.
We strongly encourage your
school-age kids to get involved in this
project, which also will include kids in
outlying areas. If you have any
questions about the media project or
would like to know more about what’s
involved, contact Shannon Chrisman,

Program coordinator, at 541-444-1030
