Donny gave this flower to Maude one afternoon before we left for our elders meeting at the casino. She held it in her hand all through the afternoon and evening until we brought her home. He was born Sept. 17, 1945 in Salem, Ore. He graduated from Newport High School. He worked at Aunt Belinda’s Candies, Inc., was a cab driver for Yaquina Cab Company, and most recently was employed as a custodian at Chinook Winds Casino. Survivors include his companion, Sandy Lancaster of Siletz; a brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Deanna Fleming of Eugene; and three nieces. Visit our Web site at http://ctsi.nsn.us EPA Public Comment Period Reopened on Air Quality Rules In response to citizen requests, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is reopening the public comment period for the Proposed Air Quality Rules for Idaho, Oregon, and Washington Indian Reservations until Oct. 10, 2002. Time for questions: EPA staff will be available to provide more information about the rule proposal and to answer questions on Sept. 10, 2002, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Liberty Theater, 211 S. Toppenish Ave., Toppenish, Wash. Public Hearing: EPA will host a public hearing to accept oral and written comments on this air quality rule proposal on Sept. 10, 2002, from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., at Liberty Theater, 211 S. Toppenish Ave., Toppenish, Wash. People wishing to provide oral comment will be called upon in the order in which they sign in. Written comments must be received no later than Oct. 10, 2002. These rules would establish EPA air quality protection on Indian reservations in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington where no EPA-approved rules currently exist. The rules would protect all residents within reservation boundaries by controlling emissions from sources located within reservations in a manner similar to that used for sources located outside reservations. The rules include a program for identifying air pollution sources, procedures to follow during air pollution emergencies, rules for open burning, and some emission limitations for industrial sources. Youth Enjoy Another Rafting Trip The Summer Youth Employment Program organized a raft trip on the McKenzie River in August-. Special thanks to George Nagel, Robert Kentta, and Kathy Kentta for serving as guides; and to Joyce Retherford and Selene Rilatos for transportation. The group put in at Finn Rock, then floated between four and five hours to Helfrick Park. As usual, the guides stressed safety prior to anyone getting into the rafts.
