TRIBAL PROGRAM NEWS Business Information Center Reopens by Lisa Norton The Business Information Center is open once again. I have been hired as the half-time counselor and can assist you with preparing business plans, securing financing, and providing counseling and support. I work with both new and existing businesses. To help get this program restarted, we will hold Starting a Successful Business classes in Siletz in March. If you are interested, please contact me. The classes meet once a week for 10 weeks. Another new, recently approved program is the Siletz Business Grant Program. This program makes grants available to tribal members to start a new business or expand an existing one. This is a one-time program that you can use only once, and it is not limited to the 11-county service area. In order to apply for this program, you must meet the following qualifications: Z Be an enrolled tribal member ONABEN Offers Distance Learning Program Business Basics Lisa Norton J Have a certificate of completion from the Starting a Successful Business program or other qualified business classes Z Have a completed and detailed business plan Z Complete a grant application This is just a basic overview of the program’s requirements. The program allows ONABEN- certified instructors to reach our extended family throughout Oregon. These introductory workshops are designed to help anyone who wants to enhance their business skills or test the water if they are thinking of going into business. After the class, give us a call for confidential one-to-one assistance with your business questions. The Artist’s Marketing Strategies - March 13 - Learn how to research and evaluate markets that have the potential to improve your business. Earning a Living as an Artist - March 20 - Learn exactly what it takes to earn a living as an artist. Annual income planning sheets will be available. Artist’s Work Placements and Contracts - April 10 - Find out how to place your work with contracts that protect both you and the work, keeping your potential income intact. Artists as Business People - April 17 - What does it take to run a business as an artist? Find out what is required for the business side of being an artist. Some tuition assistance may be available, so contact the education specialist in your area. These classes are offered in other areas also.
