It’s Happening at Chinook Winds ... by Teresa Simmons Run for the Wind 2001 The Run for the Wind II was co-sponsored by the Oregon Veteran’s Motorcycle Association. This year’s event was more successful than anticipated, with motorcycle enthusiasts filling the town in what turned out to be nearly perfect weather. Bright, shiny bikes - classic and new, stock and custom, each as individual as its owner - lined the street in front of the casino throughout the weekend, on display for the public and many were entered in a contest. The convention center housed a motorcycle trade show with booths selling items of interest to those who “ride” and custom bikes on display. The Edgar Winter Band got the crowd jumpin’, rejuvenating everyone with an unrestrained heavy beat and frenzy of sound. Kris Clark won the Blackjack tournament. Poker Run participants rode up and down the highways through the northern part of the county. Rumor has it that it was great fun. Gordon Cabrol won the VLT and $1,250. The final day of events included the rededication of the Veterans Memorial (see story on page 13), a Poker tournament, Bingo Blowout, Cash Cube promotion, awards ceremony for bike competition winners, and the grand prize drawing for the Indian Chief 2000 motorcycle.
