It’s Happening at Chinook Winds ...

Cell Phones Provide Lifelines
Kudos to Sindi Hayes in purchasing! Sindi gathered up all of the old Motorola
cell phones on the property that were no longer functional and set about finding a
use for them. She called Tony Ingraham, account executive with Cellular One, to
find out if they could be of value to someone. As it happened, Cellular One and
several companies, in conjunction with Motorola and the Wireless Foundation,
are partners in a program called “Donate a Phone and Save a Life.
Every day, 5,000 women become victims of domestic violence. But now
there’s something we can do to help. When an old wireless phone is donated, it
can be reprogrammed to be the lifeline these women need in an emergency. So if
you have an old phone, please donate it today. It’ll cost the person you’re helping
nothing, and it just might save a life.
Thanks to Sindi, Chinook Winds is now part of this program.
If you have an outdated phone and would like to donate it, drop it off at the
Cellular One store in Lighthouse Square in Lincoln City. Your donation could
make a big difference in someone’s life.

All-Sports Trade Show is
Casino’s Biggest
All-Sports, an outdoor sporting
goods distributor from Clackamas,
brought its “invitation only” trade show
to Chinook Winds Casino in January.
Established in 1955, All-Sports
has sponsored major trade shows for the
past 15 years. After several
disappointing experiences in the
Portland-metro area, the company was
lured to Chinook Winds by Senior Sales
Rep. Martin Wheeler.
The largest event held at Chinook
Winds to date filled all the available
space the facility could offer. From the
convention center to the Bingo/
entertainment hall, every available
square foot was used. Approximately
300 vendors were represented. Four
hundred dealers and buyers from small
family-owned businesses to large
sporting goods chain stores came from
11 western states to view the 27,000
items featured at the show.
Comments from vendors in
attendance were very positive regarding
the treatment they received at Chinook
Winds Casino. Jim Elliott, Steam’s
representative, affirmed this with, “It
was a very good show. I really like the
facility and everything in conjunction
with it. The motels, restaurants,
security, and customer service were
outstanding, and the local merchants
were friendly.”

Doug Bellmore, general manager
of All-Sports, stated that, “This show
is the highlight for the year’s business.
It is used in part to gauge the upcoming
selling season, and based on the
response, this year’s selling season
should be good. One of the key assets
to bringing this show to Lincoln City,
and being hosted by Chinook Winds, is
the opportunity that all these people
have to experience ‘business with
pleasure,’ something that is hard to do
in today’s climate. With everything that
the area has to offer, the dealers can take
advantage of a hard day’s work and a
easy night off.” He went on to say that
approximately 800 individuals
participated in this year’s show.
Lincoln City merchants chimed in
their approval of the event, which had a
significantly positive impact on local
businesses during what is normally a
slow January week.
As a result of this year’s success,
All-Sports agreed to review this location
for 2002.
