Ayla Diane Pamela Ben was
bom on Dec. 12, 2000, at 10:18
p.m. She weighed 8 pounds, 5
ounces, and was 21-1/2 inches long.
Proud parents are Kacey and
Chester Ben of Siletz. Grandparents
are Victoria and Park Nelson of
Siletz, and Pamela and Jon
DeYoung of Lincoln City. Great-
grandparents are Victoria and
Archie Ben of Siletz, and Diane and
Lloyd DeYoung of Lincoln City.
We are so proud of our new
bundle of joy and we look forward
to all the wonderful years we will
have to bring up.

Michael Norman Johnston Sr., a Tututni, Cheyene, and Chippewa
Indian, was bom in Seattle, Wash., on March 3, 1958. Michael recently
passed on Dec. 19, 2000, in Neah Bay, Wash., where he made a life for
himself and his family fishing and learning the ways of the Makah.
His presence will be greatly missed as a loving and caring husband
of 25 years to wife Edith, father to Michael Jr., Larissa, Deacon, and
Tiesha; grandfather to his grandson, Sabastian; son to Charlotte DePoe;
brother to Vickie Miniken, Chey-ese and Sequoia DePoe; grandson of the
late Chief William DePoe Sr.; uncle, cousin, and nephew to many.
We celebrate and remember Michael for his many lifetime
accomplishments. One such accomplishment was that of returning the
traditional coastal cedar stick preparation methods to his people at the
summer Nesika Illahee Pow-Wow celebration.
The memory of his smile, strength, good wishes, and willingness to
share with those close to him will be kept alive in the hearts and minds of
all the oeoole affected by his lifetime here with us.
