TRIBAL PROGRAM NEWS Education Activities Honor Students The Tribal Education Committee hosted a brunch for the Student Gathering on July 9,2000, at Chinook Winds. The annual event honors graduating students from higher education and adult vocational training. Two recent graduates attended, Park Nelsen from ITT in Portland, Ore., with a degree in electronics, and Jeanna Harrington from Phagan’s Beauty Academy in Newport, Ore. The two students received attaché bags with the tribal logo. Other students who attended include Alissa Lane, Oregon State University; Teresa Collins, Linn-Benton Community College; Amie Williams, Clackamas Community College; Michael Fisher, Clackamas Community College; and Bev Youngman, Portland State University. Families also joined the students, as did Tribal Council members Dolly Fisher, JoAnn Miller, Reggie Butler Sr., and Rosemary Landis. Sharon Butler Scholarship Jessica Werth, graduate of Toledo High School, has received the Sharon Butler Memorial Scholarship. Werth is the daughter of Kathryn Dick of Newport, Ore. She plans to attend Portland State University this fall in pre-med studies. She has been designated as a PSU Scholar and will receive a $500 tuition award. Park Nelsen Jessica Werth Volunteers Needed Youth Services will sponsor a Siletz Cleanup Day before the Nesika lllahee Pow- Wow. ICW Brown Bag Lunch Videos The Indian Child Welfare Program is offering employees and community members the opportunity to help combat child abuse and help Siletz children prosper mentally, physically, and spiritually. Your input and guidance will help develop a program for the community to begin this fall. Watch the video, fill out a short form, and offer your opinion of the needs of the community. Videos will be shown in the lunchroom of the administration building in Siletz.
