Fender had to be blackmailed into becoming a country star. He was so dead set against the idea of recording “Before the Next Teardrop Falls” - which became his biggest hit and earned him a CMA Single of the Year Award — that his producer had to coerce him into singing it. Fender admits that back then, he had a misconception on what country music was and that misconception almost kept him from recording the song that launched his career nationally. That career includes a substantial number of country hits - 16 between 1975 and 1979, including “Wasted Days and Wasted Nights," “Secret Love,” “Vaya Con Dios,” and “You’ll Lose a Good Thing.” In addition to helping popularize the Tex-Mex sound as a soloist, he also is part of the Grammy-winning Texas Tornados. The dance show is at 7 p.m. Ticket prices range from $15 to $30, depending on seat location. A no-host bar will be available. “It’s a Celebration” on June 23-25 during the fifth anniversary of the opening of Chinook Winds Casino & Convention Center. Twelve winners will be drawn Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for a chance to win $10,000 at the grand prize drawing on Sunday evening. Four of the 12 each day will win $500 and become finalists for the grand prize. Each of the 12 finalists will receive a key, only one of which will open the cash box containing $10,000! Bingo features will include “All You Can Daub” on Friday night, Saturday Night Fever on Saturday night, and Anniversary Bingo on Sunday night. Three lucky contestants will have their names drawn on Friday at 4,7, and 10 p.m. for a chance to stash all the cash and merchants’ certificates they can capture in the “tornado” cash cube in a 30-second period (for Winner’s Circle members, 20 seconds for non-members). Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 7 and 10 p.m., rock out with J.T. Taylor, formerly of Kool & the Gang.
