Siletz News Page 13 Programs HIP can help with sewage disposal in all 11 counties HOWARD ROY HIP Officer Tribal Council passed a resolution extending the deadline for the Home Improvement Program Applications, th e new deadline was March 1,1998. All applications received Or postmarked after March!,1998 at 11:59 A.M. will be considered for FY 1999 funds, not F Y 1998 funds. The staff at the HEP Program would like , to extend our special thanks to all the Siletz Tribal Members for their participation in the HIP Program. It has been and will continue to be our privilege and honor to serve the Siletz Tribal Members. We have broken the 100-client barrier mark this year — a new record. Subsurface Facilities provided by the Siletz Tribe in cooperation with Indian Health Service. The Indian Health Service supplies water and sewage disposal systems in the eleven county service area of Oregon. However, in some cases we have been able to provide service in other areas of Oregon with the assistance of other Oregon Tribes and I.H.S. working cooperatively. Who qualifies for this program? „ Any Siletz Tribal member is eligible for this program and the good news is there are no income requirements for this program. The question is: what do I do first in order to get sewer of water .assistance? You must first obtain an I.H.S. application from one of the area of offices or the H.I.P. offices in Siletz. Fill out the application and sign it and send it to the H.I.P. office in Siletz. Septic systems that are spilling effluent onto the ground present a health hazard and should be reported to the Housing Improve ment Program for site evaluation from I.H.S. H.I.P. will provide the necessary personnel deployment and procedures to begin the health threat remedy process.This type of situation is a definite priority for service. We also serve new home sites, such as manufactured homes and new construction for residential homes. It is important to get your application request to us as soon as possible for scheduling purposes. There is a waiting list and new septic systems Tribe receives TAS status for Clean W ater Act FRANK D. SIMM ONS Fish and Wildlife Manager The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians Natural Resources Department has received their TAS (treatment in the same manner as a state) status for the Clean Water Act, Section 106 Water Pollution Control Program. Our TAS application demon strated the Tribe's eligibility to administer programs for the prevention, reduction, and elimi nation of water pollution, including the development and implementation of ground-water protection strategies. The approval also enablesus to apply for grants under the 106 program. The Department is also planning on installing a water gauge on the Siletz River to monitor water levels and temperature. Plans are to install a water gauge at the Hatchery Site for the same purposes. !
