The event took place Saturday, April 9. Weiss began die evening with an introduction to Latin music and explanation of some of the dynamics of it, and then fielded questions from the audience. In short, the purpose of ASG is to be a liaison between the student body at large and the governmental -systems of Clackamas. . “[ASG influences] decisions in a variety of ways,” said Robertson. “Student leaders at Clackamas Community College are full part ners in the decision making process ... We are a group of students try ing to work in the best interest of students on our campus.” Alliance, which seeks to publish, perform, record and promote solo vocal music by Latin-American composers. She will study next year to at the University of Chicago to receive a graduate degree in , Latin-American studies. Wiess and LaViolette decided to per form at Clackamas in January after Weiss performed her Latin music recital for her graduate degree in music at the University of Portland. The faculty recital was the first this term in what Laviollete foresees as an ongoing practice to showcase the talents of Clackamas teachers as an encouraging and educational enhancement for students. “It is a good tiring for students, and encouraging for them to get to see their teachers perform on a pro fessional level,” she said. “It gives them a chance to see what it is like to perform on a professional level and what they should aspire to.” LaViolette also recognizes the recitals as a cultural enhancement and its growth as an exciting benefit to the college and community. “[Faculty performances] enhance the community as well, through the performance of music from different cultures,” she said. “We are really excited about that, so all in all it is a realty good tiring.” Musician, musician-scholars, and music appreciators are all encouraged to become a member of LAASA and join in their efforts to promote Latin music. SAFET logsg 4-10-05 11:31 a.m. Faculty showcases Latin music at recital and “Querendona (Half Crazy).” LaViolette provided the accompa niment to Weiss’ voice on the piano and felt the night was a success. “[The recital] was great; it was wonderful” said LaViolette. “Playing in an ensemble is one of my favorite things do to.” Weiss and LaViolette met at the University of Puget Sound where they met in choir and collaborated for Weiss’ Junior recital. “I was always so glad to be able to work with [LaViolette]. She is such an outstand ing accompanist,” said Weiss. The performance of Latin music was part of Weiss’ efforts to promote and publish Latin-American music.
